Symbolism in Prishtine everywhere. Seems a lot of people with expensive cars driving around. Questionable on so many grounds. Thinking, who is funding the billboards? The spirit that they aim to convey is not there amongst the people they aim to reach, who seem preoccupied in their daily struggles.

Both Bremen and Hamburg have a considerably higher unemployment rate than Saxony-Anhalt, but their electorates have not voted overwhelmingly for the AfD. In Bremen, the Bürgerschaft is 1/72 AfD, and in Hamburg, the Bürgerschaft is 10/121 AfD. In Saxony-Anhalt, the Landtag is on track for 39/83. 2/2

Re: all those people who are claiming that it is solely or mainly economic concerns, such as unemployment, that drove the AfD vote in Saxony-Anhalt, I have a question: Then how do we explain the difference between the outcome of today's election in Sax.-Anh. and elections in Hamburg and Bremen? 1/2

An oft forgotten bit of historical trivia is that the German Constitutional Court included a footnote it its ruling banning the neo-Nazi SRP in 1952 saying "of course, this is all moot if the party can pull off 40% in a regional election in the middle bit of what is currently East Germany." s/

When the AfD made the move to the Bundestag may were trivialising as there will be no growth. Here we go. Depressing.

For decades the Sachsen Anhalt CDU played to the instincts of a substantially radicalised population in the Land rather than challenging it out of the assumption that its grip on power was permanent. That allowed space in discourse to remain open for the Far Right. Now here we are.

As with Labour and Keir Starmer in the May regional elections in the UK, I struggle to see how Friedrich Merz can survive as leader of the CDU after such a sign of strategic ineptitude as the election results in Sachsen Anhalt

The demographic which voted the least for the AfD was socialized entirely in the GDR, the highest share at 53% (35-44) were children or infants when the wall came down and 42% of those born in the 21st century voted for them.

Niemand will schließlich Maduro sein.
