My husband just said every time they get rid of one the replacement is worse.

Being unable to take pleasure in lengthy torture and allowing a death at least as quick and dignified as a dog’s at the vet would also help.

There’s a little, tiny, slowly dying spark of hope left inside me that says it may not happen, that the forces of good may yet prevail. As I said, it’s dying, but it refuses to wink out.

The German publication Republik has a fascinating bit on Peter Thiel’s Masters of the Universe yearly break-out sessions he calls Dialogue. It’s a real slap in the face. www.republik.ch/2026/10/09/i...
Recently, some rich and powerful people have paid too little attention to ensuring that their secret space remains private. We are talking about the organization "Dialog" of tech investors Auren Hoffman and Peter Thiel.

"There will be significant political violence in connection with job losses due to AI - in countries of the global North as well as the South."

This sentence comes from Michael Sellitto, Head of Global Affairs of the AI company Anthropic, which develops the well-known language model Claude. He wrote it when he filled out a registration form at "Dialog" and was asked for a forecast for the future.

Anthropic’s artificial intelligence gave a false homicide tip to Philly police, triggering a meeting with the company
The incident happened on July 18 but was not discovered by the Silicon Valley company until September, authorities say.

Of course the plan to go after the ICC had already been in the works, but he let it fly today like a ballistic missile out of rage that he (once again) didn’t get the Nobel Peace Prize. Yes, he’s just that mad.

The link to Mike Collin’s X account with his posts on Trump and the out of context Blood Diamond movie meme are shocking enough, but his lunatic replies are just outright eliminationist. Not everyone in this country is so murderous, but it will be enough to destroy us if we let it.

Well, it’s worked with every other human rights atrocity they’ve tried so far. America seems to have a lot of spare human beings it’s willing to sacrifice to maintain its illusions of safety and greatness.

Honestly, I’m at a loss as to what he’ll be able to do to stop them. Can he rally a Minneapolis-type response? Can New Yorkers? Does Hochul have it in her to weigh in substantially? Walz was a disappointment, but could he have done more? Just thinking out loud. Anybody have any ideas?

A perfect portrait of the US Right. Ours may be a game that includes concentration camps, lawless public executions, & Third Reichian monuments to egomaniac stupidity, but as soon as Trump’s support is gone, watch how fast these opportunists stick a finger in the wind & switch from stripes to spots.

In the early 1990s when my sister-in-law moved to North Carolina, people there were still calling it The War of Northern Aggression. That’s a division that never healed. It always bubbles under the surface, erupting like lava in times of unrest. We are the Balkans of the Western Hemisphere.

When we moved to Philly from a 700-population town in SW PA, culture shock was intense. All the accents, languages, faces, colors, were scary & disorienting at first. 22 years later, we moved to a very white, homogenous rural area. Suddenly all those accents & colors gone…it was so sad and lifeless.

The same kind of thinking went into justifying the lynching of black men in the south, and everywhere else across time and space where men have used “protecting” women as a fig leaf for war and genocide. In WWII Germans & Russians raped their way back & forth from the fronts to “avenge” their own.

Gun lovers say a variation of this, too: “You don’t know anything about guns, so you can’t have an opinion.” Well, I don’t know much about internal combustion engines either, but I have a right to raise concerns about pollution, traffic dangers, & the vehicle designs that makes them worse.

This isn’t a statement easily mischaracterized. If I said let an enemy nation take out Canada, no Canadian would try to parse it into a harmless misapprehension. Trump‘s repeatedly proclaimed & acted on his hate for “Dem” places. He doesn’t see us as human. It’s foolish for folks to refuse to see it

I don’t know if your read Sulzberger's long love song of an editorial to his Precious on its 125th anniversary, but so far from being any kind of reassessment of its errors, it fairly crowed with hubris. The rot begins at the head and always has.

Our taxes builds concentration camps, terrorize “undesirables”, disappear people, let old men freeze to death, legalize torture, support a leader who lives like a cartel boss & a gov’t that brainwashes us into embracing Nazi aspirations. His rallies still giggle at the exhilaration of it all.
