This passage from Questlove's genre survey + memoir Hip-Hop Is History is really hitting home as a music geek who's definitively entering middle age.

"A decade ago, I wrote a memoir called Mo' Meta Blues, though as this book goes on, it's condemned to be more of a metanarrative, too, because nearly every process concerned with art — how I find my way to new music, how I digest it, how I recommend it to others, how I draw lines around it that both protect it and protect me — has become more self-conscious as I have gotten older. As we have established, there will never again be a moment in which I arrive breathlessly at a record store on a Tuesday morning and walk away with a cassette or CD that's about to change my life. I'm impressed at how Nolan can film an Odyssey that has wooden acting and dialogue, mediocre action, and is a flimsy adaptation of the source material, but in practice these flaws barely matter because at the macro scale it kicks ass.

I visited Mt Rushmore on a road trip about 10 years ago, and in context, it was a real perspective shifter how this monument that seemed so grandiose on film and TV was basically just a really expensive tourist trap.
