Join me and @hwaoregon.bsky.social, @sfpoetry.bsky.social and more organizations at the @wilwrite.bsky.social Writer's Fair tomorrow night at 5–7 p.m. And check out this year's auction items on the way into the fair. Books can be expected, but there's so much more in these 50 packages.
Flyer for the Willamette Writers Conference annual public Writer's Fair. Text at the top of the flyer reads "Are you a writer? Come to the Writer's Fair at the Willamette Writers Conference!" In bulleted text "Free & open to the public; Make connections; Meet writer organizations; Find resources and support." Below this text is a collage of images from the book fair and conference, focused on smiling attendees. Below that is a map of the 20 organizations' tables. The text at the bottom of the flyer reads "July l31, 5–7PM | Crowne Plaza | PDX, willamettewritersconference.org."

A nice message in @wilwrite.bsky.social's Dispatch this morning! I'm always happy to share about Mars and @uahirise.bsky.social. I think in the photo I'm introducing two autofiction writers who didn't know each other yet. Find your people, people! None of us are alone. mailchi.mp/willamettewr...

Thank you to Katherine Quevedo for taking a picture of me at my table at the Beaverton City Library Local Author Fair today. It was a great show and people love folk horror, lol (that's the edition of Weird Fiction Quarterly that always sells well.) It was fun talking to so many readers and writers.

I got to see The Midnight on Tuesday. I took crappy pictures, but what a great show! I miss Tim McEwan being a part of the tour, but with Tyler Lyle, Justin Klunk, & all the new touring musicians, it was still The Midnight's fantastic music and energy. Opening act New Constellations was great, too!

I'm so proud of our team at @uahirise.bsky.social. We were able to capture images of Exocomet 3I/ATLAS with the HiRISE camera! A lot of work went into this effort, and a lot of work continues to refine and analyze these data. Congratulations everyone! www.uahirise.org/releases/3i-...
On 2 October 2025, MRO turned away from Mars to image 3I/ATLAS, only the third interstellar object ever observed passing through our solar system!

In this 3.2 second exposure, HiRISE successfully detected 3I/ATLAS at a scale of 30 km/pixel and a spacecraft distance of roughly 30 million kilometers (19 million miles). However, MRO is not well-suited to exposures of this length. The nucleus, estimated from Hubble Space Telescope images to be at most a few kilometers across, cannot be resolved in our HiRISE image. Additionally, due to spacecraft jitter during the observation period, 3I/ATLAS is smeared by several pixels. Refinement of the data continues, but we can clearly see the coma. In fact, the full coma spans our entire HiRISE image, but only the brightest inner region is detected given the exposure time used. (See an annotated version here).

Throughout October, 3I/ATLAS was too close to the Sun in Earth’s sky to be visible from most telescopes, giving MRO a unique view of the coma. While the comet will pass no closer than 270 million kilometers from Earth, it came within 30 million kilometers of Mars.

Not my usual genre, but I enjoyed @rebeccamzornow.bsky.social's new romantasy novella "Landsome Roads" a lot! It's meta, it's funny, it's surprisingly tense, and it includes great moments like the heroine explaining cosmology in a magical, medieval setting. rebeccamzornow.com/landsome-roa...

Leaving Soon (and Staying Here!)
Leaving Soon

I'm so sorry:
I'll be leaving the Meta properties.
This A.I. slop, misinformation, lies,
algorithmic order, refusal to prioritize
friends, family, groups to which I belong,
any sense of “social” a pipe dream, long gone.

I hate it here—
not your fault, to be clear.
This is all Meta and its ridiculous CEO’s
fault. Bigots and bots, angry tech bros,
MAGA and sycophants…
it’s all too much. I just want

to try again elsewhere,
Bluesky or fair
-er weather, writing blogs,
a return to analog,
meeting friends for lunch…
anywhere is better, without Zuck (or Musk.)
