Not a fan of Newsom, but this is wonderful and I have to give him points for not messing it up.

Last of the Lucas…for now…

Yet more Lucas (this time taken by the friend I was with)

Why did a movie with a decent budget in 1984 look so much like a cop show from the late ‘70s?

Bold, groundbreaking, novel take: Out of the Past is better than Against All Odds.

I swear, everyone, the colors Wyeth, Frazetta, Parrish, and more used are not the colors you’ve seen your whole life.

Spent the day at the Lucas. Just amazing. @stevelieberart.bsky.social and everyone else—you have to come to LA and see it.

Tomorrow: the Lucas with an old friend.

Hmmm. My mom went to a lot of effort to leave Scotland and come to the US, but times have changed. Maybe…

There may be better lyrics than "Language is the liquid/That we're all dissolved in/Great for solving problems/After it creates a problem," but few are more accurate while still being a metaphor.

And everyone should be buying it. So. Much. Fun.

000

And @mikeshenderson.bsky.social? Your work on this week's THE FORGED is amazing as always.

@thatpetewoods.bsky.social @mikeshenderson.bsky.social MUPPETS TAKE THE MARVEL UNIVERSE was priceless, and your work in it was stunning.

Wait. No TERRIERS? The list is invalid.

If you ever wonder why sports marketing uses so much illustration and/or heavy stylization, look at players' faces when they're actually playing. Also: motion blur. Also: tennis rackets are a pain to mask out. Especially when they're blurry.

Put on a Warren Zevon playlist and hit shuffle. First song up is my favorite, "Desperados Under the Eaves". Next is my second favorite, "My Shit's Fucked Up". Good luck or worrying omen?

Matthew Perry from a 1997 interview is the spitting image of Ditko’s Peter Parker.

To the extent meritocracy has ever been the thing people wanted it to be, it was reliant on people being able to work their way up the ranks. When most leadership positions are decided based on one specific class signifier, you're just recreating an aristocracy.

Did I, of all people, just recommend exercise? In my defense, I did suggest hitting something first, which is way closer to my "brand".

Every time I see Amaury Guichon go to immense trouble to create fake fruit out of real fruit, I wonder what the point is. And then I think about the whole concept of edible statuary.

They should have gone all in on the Frau Blucher thing in They Will Kill You, and had Patricia Arquette do a German accent.

I was going to say "a Molten Man movie," but then I thought of a good way to approach such a thing. I mean, no one would ever go see it, 'cuz Molten Man, but it could be good.

Maybe 3 people will understand that last post. @brianschirmer.bsky.social definitely will.

I would make a good Gordon, Gordon.

This is what happens when you move around a lot as a little kid. I'm surprised that New Orleans (where we settled when I was 9) didn't have a stronger showing.

If anyone here has pull with Adobe, PLEASE get them to add a "Link All Masks" feature to Photoshop. Having to comb through someone else's file to check if their masks are all linked is an enormous pain in the butt. #adobe #photoshop #DesignerProblems #graphicdesign

Without saying your age, what is your favorite movie that came out when you were 20 years old? (Primarily because it was the movie my wife and I saw on our first date.)

Chimichurri sauce and shish kebab go surprisingly well together. (Using up leftovers that are, individually, too small for a meal. Will do that combo again in the future, though.)

Okay: light rum, a pinch of salt, & Tropical 7-Up. Really refreshing.
