I know fuel costs are adding up right now, but imagine paying $21,000 for catering on a 2-hour flight to DC. 🤔 Oh wait, I guess we did... torontosun.com/news/nationa...
torontosun.com
Prime Minister Mark Carney billed $524K on in-flight catering during first year as PM
That, says the Canadian Taxpayers Federation's Franco Terrazzano, is what the average Canadian family would pay for 30 years of groceries.

Real talk: I'm Canadian and I know our roads are rough right now, but could you imagine how shitty they would be if the buggy whip lobby had Sir Wilfrid Laurier the way the oil and gas industry has captured Mark Carney?

"Out of Control" is generally understood to mean escalating or getting worse. Things that can not be restrained. "Uncontained" is generally associated with not restrained, checked or controlled. I know #bcwildfire nomenclature is generally engraved in stone, but "out of control"? Really?
This picture appears in a news article released a few hours ago and shows a little white puff of smoke on a mountain top. The fire hasn't been actioned yet and is described, quite correctly by established norms, as out of control. I believe a more accurate observation, that might lead to more effective communication, would see the fire described as uncontained.

The "super-El Nino" talk is unhelpful clickbait hype. Current consensus forecast is for a Nino3.4 index of ~1.3C to materialize later this year. That's a *moderate* El Nino; pales in comparison w/ recent (e.g. 2016 & 2024) events. The truth remains bad enough! www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/ana...

Most old hockey players know you have to skate to where the puck is going, not where it is. No, Mark Carney has not "reduced the fuel prices on gas by .28 cents/litre." He has reduced gov't revenue and increase O&G's bottom line. www.youtube.com/shorts/aWZn0...

Exactly this. ✅ Everyone should take a good hard look at what Japan is doing to keep the prices reasonable. The notion that we can transition while increasing O&G profit margins doesn't make any sense to me.

We need to talk a bit about how utterly absurd the March heatwave was in the USA. This heatwave would have been impossible without a boost from climate change, but even with climate change it remains a deeply unlikely event. A thread looking at some of the numbers. 🧵

Extreme wildfire spread isn’t just wind-driven. We show the Camp Fire’s explosive growth came from plume-coupled spotting: embers lofted, transported, and deposited in organized zones 5–10+ km ahead, igniting new fire fronts. agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10....
