Have you read A Starlit Darkness by Yuu Toyota? It kept making me think of Descending Stories as I was reading it, obviously there’s the period piece aspect but also rivals/envy, feelings abt creativity, inferiority, & art, + generally messy people & issues of class/status.

One of my most recent manhwa loves was Diamond Dust, the bittersweet nostalgia feeling it gave me still has me enraptured. He Might Bite! is fluffy & fun & makes me smile regularly. My S-Class Hunters just started up again & continues to be fun, pretty, & remind me why I love those characters.

A rewatch of the 2004 anime Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo compelled me to make my second vid for VidUKon. Not only are the show's visuals gorgeous, but it is also INCREDIBLY queer, which I hope comes through in the vid. Download, warnings & details on AO3: archiveofourown.org/works/83895331

If it can be languages other than English I'd recommend: Nirvana in Fire (Chinese, historical political intrigue), Chicago Typewriter (Korean, reincarnation - modern & 1930s), Glass Heart (Japanese, band/making music). If animation is okay Apothecary Diaries and Dungeon Meshi I've much enjoyed.
