Ben Affleck's Holden McNeil goatee‘s the answer but I'm not sure what the question is. Politics. Humor. Great at @ replies, not great at regular posts.

I don't think I could go back and watch seasons I liked of Grey's Anatomy, How to Get Away With Murder, and maybe Scandal. Versus Heroes, the epitome of a show that went from outstanding to disaster, I could rewatch season 1 any time any where.

I feel like a lot of people who are saying "[this show] was good and then it got awful" are still appreciating the show, just only part of it. What show can you not even watch the seasons you had thought were good because it got bad later? I feel like Shonda Rhimes shows always go like this.

Actually, "IT'S MORPHIN' TIME!" was ruled legal in the case Power Rangers v. AMC Theatres, but "IT'S MORBIN' TIME" has never been ruled on by the Supreme Court.

I know it sounds crazy, but literally, the Democratic power structure, both the DNC and most state and locals, is set around cronyism and entrenched interests. It's 100% about $. And VOTERS can't affect who gets their money. All we can do is successfully vote for others in primary, and not give $.

Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Oh absolutely. The Democratic base of voters at the moment is a mixed bag, but overall, they're a tolerable bunch with a lot of good there. The candidates? The party? The power structure? It's crap. I know. How do you fix it from the inside? Oust those idiots. You can't.

And their post-election analysis shows THEY DON'T CARE IF THEY LOSE. They won't change. TL;DR It doesn't work. Whether you follow through and don't vote for them in a general, or just threaten, they're fine either way. Primarying them? It's clearly had an effect, not just AOC, multiple people.

I mean, we just saw in 2024 with the unconditional support of Israel instead of a modicum of even a measured compromise (let alone just simply saying they won't support a genocidal government), that Democrats will throw a general election rather then get votes to win. Donors > voters to them.

Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
We have decades of evidence that Democrats could care less if you won't vote for them. They are happy to lose. I understand the theory. I thought it would work. 40 years of seeing elections where it didn't has convinced me it's never going to change anything, and primary challengers finally have.

Most of them are shithead center-right enablers, I know. What actually happens in terms of legislative and executive power decisions between the binary options is wildly different in terms of real life impact.

Not voting for Dems in a general (in competitive races) is just hurting others, not affecting anything positively (national Dem party people and $ consultants enjoy being the minority party just fine). You're not helping by withholding a vote. Theoretical help has been disproven by actual life.

25 years ago, even as much as maybe 15 years ago, I believed 3rd parties were the answer. The implosion of the current Green party being viable nationally, the ballot access restrictions, Citizens United, and the success of DSA/progressives winning Dem primaries has made me change my mind.

Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
But after the primary, whether someone good wins or someone bad wins, on general election day, I have a choice to help create a do-nothing, won't-govern, impotent in-fighting Congress, or a destructive-harming-as-many-as-possible Congress. Those are my choices. And I choose the lesser evil.

Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
I've given the Democratic Party exactly $0, and I never will. They'll spend it on their own cronies doing campaign work. I've given one specific candidate money in my lifetime, who was a progressive challenger who successfully primaried a horrible entrenched Democrat in a guaranteed blue district.

Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
They're 80% as awful, agreed. Keep working on reforming the party, or better yet, finding ways to create change outside of electoral politics. All I'm saying is people's lives are tangibly better with these hypocrites in charge instead of MAGA people trying to cause as much harm as possible.

Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Why not? 1) The idea that voting for someone means you support their policies is not some thing that actually is objectively true. 2) We have about 100 years of two parties entrenching to the point where 3rd party is practically impossible to win, vs. seen progressive/DSA candidates win primaries.

And I've seen the difference between a Republican controlled Senate that passes evil, and a compromised Democratic controlled Senate that can't whip their members to pass good. The latter is a problem; the former can't necessarily be survived.

Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
I look to make change outside of election day and electoral politics. I really see too many systematic entrenched problems to make changes at the ballot box on a general election day, and staying home doesn't work when the Democrats are equally (or more) happy to be the minority party.

Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
For sitting Democratic Senators, for 5.5 years, if they are crappy, I'm all for giving them grief, loudly. I'm for funding challengers. I'm for spending my time online and the little I have IRL fighting for someone better. After the primary before general? I'm a fatalist. They're lesser of 2 evils.

Because I believe in what happened to him eventually (on non-Nazi issues) works in the national Democratic party ... that public pressure, donor pressure, and some standards on some issues gets Democrats to resign, change, or reign themselves in more often than not. But it'd sicken me, agreed.

I see what you're saying. I've been anti-Platner since beginning. I'm Jewish, I have family who have been killed by neo-Nazis, and I can understand about line-in-the-sand. And with all that ... ...if I lived in Maine... ...if he stayed on the ballot... ...I would have voted him in over Collins.
200
Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
... I believe that having him in office, even if he turns out to be as bad as a Republican, as bad of a turncoat as Sinema, Manchin, or Fetterman, still puts a Democratically controlled Senate that is far far less likely to bring up negative legislation, even if they won't vote for good legislation.

Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Honest answer to this? I don't throw my hands up (and I'll get back to the Platner point you brought up when I have a moment, you make a good point). I speak up about it. I don't mind those criticizing Talarico. But...

Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
...that's ... that's a legitimate criticism. I am. I'm not trying to solve pervasive transphobia. I don't have the power to. I'm trying (in terms of trans issues) to have my child, my child's friends, my students, and others survive in US better from 2026 to 2028. It's a narrow focus, yes, fair.

Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Because while some people, trans or not, view their vote as an endorsement of the candidate they are voting for and what policies they have they will do ... ...other people, trans or not, view their vote as a choice between living in a world of one outcome vs. living in a world of another outcome.

There's some absolute idiots whose choices of words in online threads are insulting and ignorant at best, and intentionally dehumanizing to get what they want at worst. My trans immediate family member would vote for Talarico in a heartbeat if they happened to live in TX. Without hesitation.
200
Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
There's some really rude, narrowly-focused people who are angry at those who won't go in this direction. I can't justify their choices. There's some throw-everyone-else-under-the-bus-so-I-get-what-I-want people there. They aren't isolated individuals, you're right. But I don't believe that's most.
000
Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
These things are tangible. And there's only 2 choices available. And I've been around enough to know the systematic reasons 3rd parties aren't ever going to save us in America, or any quick few year fixes to the Democratic Party. So I choose harm reduction. And so do many "only Dem" voices.
110
Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Hillary's and Obama's and Biden's undocumented immigrant proposals and actions were overall bad. But a Dem in office in 2028 means due process returns, the level of bad confinement conditions gets reduced (not eliminated or even ok, I'm not naive, I know what things were like before Trump 2025).
100
Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
That INCLUDES some Dems who are willing to throw trans people under the bus with some comments and policies. Talarico in TX to some degree, Newsome running in 2028, plenty of lesser Dems, if they come to power, things will not be good. But the amount of constant harm is different.

Rhapsodize Eclectically @rhapeclect.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
I have vested personal interests in the trans community, the wider LGBT community, the undocumented immigrant community, and at least one other. The trans community and undocumented immigrant community members I know cannot survive in America, or at all, without Dem wins in '26 and '28.
