A severe thunderstorm watch is now in effect for portions of Oregon and Washington. #wawx Remember, a watch means all of the ingredients for this thunderstorm is here but it has not yet arrived. (A warning means it’s here. People use tacos and cookies as examples here all the time).
The map stretches from king county all through the I- 5 corridor into Oregon. It says there’s potential for tornadoes, hail and wind.

Today marks 24 years since the Nisqually #Earthquake. This was Washington’s most recent damaging earthquake. Today, let’s remember this event, and think about what we have done to be more prepared for future earthquakes. 🧵 We’ll share some memories from WA EMD staff – please reply with yours!
Text on an infographic reads: Remembering the February 28th, 2001, Magnitude 6.8 Nisqually Earthquake. What do you remember about th quake? What have you done to prepare for earthquakes since then?"

USGS "ShakeMap" showing Shaking patterns from the Nisqually earthquake, where warm (orange and Yellow Colors) represent stronger Shaking, and greens represent light shaking, mostly further away from the focused point over Nisqually, Washington, near Olympia.
