We’ve been bargaining with @cascadepbs.bsky.social since they announced layoffs last week, fighting for more severance for our members as they head into a brutal journalism job market. So far the company has refused to offer more than a week of severance beyond their contractual requirement.

It’s difficult to find the words to express how our unit is feeling right now, but we’ll take a stab at it: shocked, disappointed, angry, gutted. @cascadepbs.bsky.social’s choice to eliminate long-form written reporting is a massive loss for our community in a critical moment. tinyurl.com/LayoffFund

We did it!!! Yesterday the unit voted unanimously to ratify a new contract that will immediately secure hardworking journalists at @cascadepbs.bsky.social an average raise of 6.76% and an average 18.3% wage increase over the course of the four-year contract.

Big news: After nine months of fighting for a #faircontract we’re happy to report that we reached a tentative agreement at the bargaining table with @cascadepbsnewsroom.bsky.social today!! Now we will bring the proposed contract to the unit for a ratification vote.

We were back on the info picket line yesterday following a productive bargaining session with @cascadepbs.bsky.social. They finally heard us and are moving on wages — but not enough, considering they spent $2M on executive compensation in 2024.

Our CEO made $471,105 in 2023, nearly 7X the average Cascade PBS journalist’s salary. His 2023 bonus alone would have made him one of the highest paid workers in the newsroom today. Our union members are struggling to make ends meet. @cascadepbs agree to a #FairContract. Sign our petition. 🔗 in bio

A white quote box on a dark red background reading: “I worked at Cascade PBS for almost 9 years and I left because of a senior management culture that doesn't value its newsroom and production employees. Staff are gaslighted to believe that they are being paid what they're worth and that they should be grateful to be employed when asking for fair wages.”

A white quote box on a dark red background reading:

““I left Cascade PBS in part because of pay discrepancy, with those at the very top of the organization making hundreds of thousands dollars more than those who actually produce the content the media organization relies on day in and out. This model of running a media nonprofit is outdated and will only lead to repeated turnover that in the end costs the company more money.”

#WhyILeftCascadePBS
A white quote box on a dark red background reading:
“When I took a job at a competing local outlet, my wage increased by more than 12%. It is clear Cascade PBS’s wages impact people’s abilities to stay and imagine a long-term future at the outlet — or even in journalism more broadly. Paying folks a livable wage isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s also the smart thing to do: It would help mitigate the loss of talent to competing outlets or even other industries.”
