I feel like in all the deserved praise Zero gets, people underplay how good of a protagonist X is. He's a pacifist character who knows that violence is sometimes necessary to protect others. I think his trust in others and friendship with people like Alia and Zero helps in fleshing him out.

Layer's definitely worse than the Alia redesign since I'd argue there's some racism baked into the one dark-skinned character in X having a 2000s Mortal Kombat-ass outfit, but Alia becoming a lot more conventionally attractive also bothers me even if I think she's a pretty lady.
