Walker Jenkins' first career homer vs. an actual pitcher is a game-tying two-run shot off a 101 mph fastball with two outs in the ninth inning. Jenkins has three hits tonight after totaling four hits in his first 16 games.

Trans rights is inherently a bodily autonomy issue. Just like abortion rights is. We can't have gender equity or reproductive freedom without trans rights. Full stop. You can yell at me and make up shit that you claim I've said if it makes you feel better. I don't care. I'm right. And you know it.

Last year after the State Fair, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) exhibited 10 of the pieces for about three weeks. This year, they'll exhibit more than 20 for over two months! I don't know all the pieces they selected, but at least two of these will be included.
"Twin Cities 2026 (Guernica 1937)" by Jennifer Nelson
This is a piece inspired by Picasso's 1937 anti-war painting Guernica. The crop art is less gruesome and the people less distorted than the original painting, but still distressing. Instead of a dismembered soldier on the ground, we see Alex Pretti, still gripping his phone. Coming out of his mouth is a speech bubble with his last words written in Morse code: "Are you okay?" Instead of a gored horse, we see a loon rising up in flight. On the right, we see Renee Good in a hat, with a speech bubble of her (uncontracted) last words in Morse code, "I am not mad at you." In front of her is a smaller figure with a bunny-eared hat, representing Liam Conejo Ramos, one of the children kidnapped and detained by ICE. At the far right, one of the screaming figures has the words "ICE OUT" (in English) above their head.

Dozens of crops were used to create this piece.

It was awarded a lavender ribbon as a Merit Award and also a fancy black and white ribbon indicating it will be displayed at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) in an exhibit after the state fair ends."Grainy Afternoon on Hennepin Avenue" by Megan Bell
This is a crop version of a painting in MIA's collections, "Rainy Evening on Hennepin Avenue" by Robert Koehler in about 1910. In the foreground the artist's wife and son (Marie and Edward) are crossing the street with the family dog. Other individuals are also depicted. Minneapolis buildings past and present are in the background. The sky is overcast but not fully dark.
https://collections.artsmia.org/art/303/rainy-evening-on-hennepin-avenue-robert-koehler

About 20 types of crops are used in this piece. By virtue of the natural colors, the crop art is yellower in tone than the original painting.

It has been awarded a yellow ribbon for fifth place in its category and a fancy black and white ribbon indicating it will be displayed at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) in an exhibit after the state fair ends."Last Day in the Park with Quinoa" by Mareen Sorenson
This is a pretty faithful reproduction of A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat. It turns out small painted seeds make a good approximation of pointillism.

The picture's frame is also covered with multicolored painted seeds to mimic the border of the painting.

It is also a tribute to quinoa, banned from future competitions. The seed list uses the altered name of the Sondheim musical about the painting and the artist, Sunday in the Park with George, but "Sun" and "George" are crossed out and replaced with "Last" and "Quinoa" to make the title for the crop art. Quinoa has been banned from use in State Fair crop art competition starting in 2027.

Seeds used include amarinth, quinoa, flax, broccoli, canola, poppy, corn, mustard, and alphala (alfalfa?). Other crops include ornamental grasses (primarily used for the water in the painting), wild rice, and onion skin.

This entry has been awarded a red ribbon for second place in its category. This is a tough competition."L'Etoile du Nord guidant le peuple" (The Star of the North leading the people) by Bethany Nagan
A local take on "La Liberté guidant le peuple" (Liberty leading the people) by Eugène Delacroix. Most of this piece is a faithful rendition of the original painting of an 1830 French rebellion, with some key differences. Guns held by the fighters have been replaced with picket signs (saying "Joy is resistance," "No Kings", and "ICE OUT"); Ms. Liberty holding a French flag has been replaced by a loon holding a Minnesota flag; and if you look closely, the buildings in the background on the right depict the Minneapolis skyline.

Most of the seed list has been cut off by the photograph.

This piece was awarded a white ribbon for third place in its category.

Information about the original painting can be found on Wikipedia among other places. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_Leading_the_People
