Thanks for the link to the paper. The Eureka article is citing spj.science.org/doi/10.34133... ("Preliminary Hot-Fire Test of Ammonium Dinitramide-Based Thrusters Based on Electrical Ignition") for some reason.

I had the pleasure of suggesting the names "Eunicefoote" and "Keeling" for two minor planets. Both were named on 11 August 2025, for their respective contributions to the discovery of the effects of CO2 on the atmosphere.

Hey! The image of the asteroid seems to be higher resolution than the one that was shared yesterday. Is that image you use in the composite a second, new image of the object, or is it a sharpened/upscaled version of the first one?

Can you tell if that's a real image? Or an AI enhanced version of the other one?

Did you notice the much higher resolution image in China Space Watch's most recent post (bsky.app/profile/chin...)?

The video talks about how the model used in 2014 changed, and how more recent models predicted a much worse warming.

Last year I rewrote Wikipedia's article on Makemake and it's now featured on the front page!! i spent 2 months hyperfixating on this topic and doing all the research and writing. It was SO worth it :D Special thanks to @renerpho.bsky.social & others for reviewing it ^^ (1/12 thread) 🔭 #planetsci
A screenshot of the "Today's featured article" section on the Main Page of Wikipedia. The section, highlighted in green, features an excerpt from the Wikipedia article on Makemake:

"Makemake is a dwarf planet orbiting the Sun beyond Neptune. It has a diameter 60% that of Pluto, and is the fourth-largest trans-Neptunian object and the largest member of the Solar System's classical Kuiper belt, a disk of icy bodies beyond Neptune's orbit. Its discovery on March 31, 2005, by American astronomers Mike Brown, Chad Trujillo and David Rabinowitz at Palomar Observatory contributed to the reclassification of Pluto as a dwarf planet in 2006. Makemake's surface, like Pluto's, is largely covered by frozen methane and stained reddish-brown by tholins. It has one known satellite, unnamed, whose orbit suggests that Makemake's rotation has a high axial tilt. Makemake shows evidence of geochemical activity and cryovolcanism, which has led scientists to suspect that it might harbor a subsurface ocean of liquid water. No high-resolution images of its surface exist because it has not been visited up close by a space probe."

See the related study www.nature.com/articles/s43... from the April 2026 issue of the same journal, which found that hydrothermal systems at the Hapcheon crater in South Korea supported stromatolites for about 20-30,000 years, while the Ries crater in Germany may have done so for 250,000 years.

From the Nature article (explaining why it took so long to publish): Observations obtained in 2025 support our interpretation of WOH G64 as a binary system ... However, WOH G64 currently exhibits optical features consistent with an RSG, rather than the B[e] characteristics observed during 2016–2021"
