A temperature above 37°C has only been recorded on nine days in the UK since records began – three of those occasions have now been in 2026, including today. Reading University has recorded its warmest August day on record (since 1908), and second warmest day overall.

~1 billion times the distance from Earth to the Sun. That is approx the total length of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal hyphae in topsoils. These microscopic fungal networks form one of Earth’s circulatory systems moving carbon and nutrients. Out now in @science.org : lnkd.in/eKAsVN_Z

Land ecosystems and the ocean are responsible for absorbing the other 50% of anthropogenic emissions. Land sink account for about 21% (8.7 GtCO2/yr, average over last decade). Ocean sink accounts for 29% (8.7 GtCO2/yr).
