Are the peaks a launch of new products, or are those just "normal" traffic and users?

I'm curious - have you thought about getting a ticket to @ffconf.org but then not (or haven't yet)? Why? It's a sincere question, we're trying to understand what's holding people back. (you can email me too remy@leftlogic.com)
An FFConf slide with the 8 speakers along the bottom. The text on the slide reads: "Between layoffs, AI hype, and a barely-recognisable industry, many of us in tech are wondering: what now? Join us at FFConf".

With the sidebar of: 8 speakers, Brighton UK, Fri 13 Nov.

what's the X axis, because it looks like 2025 was huge, which… I'd expect the trailing off to have happened even earlier. Not sure what's making '26 SO vastly different to mid-25, etc. Real question (though now I'm wondering if I sound like a fucking llm 🤦)

Stupid #a11y question: if multiple images form a logo and I wrap these `img` elements in a `div` with `role='img'` and an `aria-label`, do I still need to set an empty `alt` on the `img` elements?

After careful consideration and a look at where the industry is spending it's funding we've decided to pivot #FFConf in a "new" direction. I present to you: ffconf.ai Please share with bots and humans alike.

Wow. Now that's a subject! Spammer "accidentally" put the body in the subject field.
It's spam, you really don't want to know. Lots of the word "financing" repeated over and over with different conditions, like mortgage, etc.

Appreciate this is going to go rather wide, but we've had reports of ffconf.org not being reachable (literally ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED). I'd really appreciate a test and if anyone finds it refusing to let me know (obs it's reporting as up on downforme, etc).

I've cobble my own book tooling recently, a mix of calibre on desktop, syncthing (+awkward "calibre needs to be shutdown before sync"), a custom opds server and custom koreader patches - and…it's sort of hung together. Just discovered bookorbit. It's very…claudey…but so far ticking a LOT of boxes.

There's a weird tension between the posts I see (exclusively on linkedin) that are anti-AI (usually "vibe coder vs engineer") and yet use LLM generated image to demonstrate their point. I mean, it works to get the point across, but…just doesn't sit quite in the right spot…

I **completely** missed this. Partly my skimming eyes and keen to get to the (very nice) demos. Definitely worthwhile putting at the top (maybe a bit more contrast too for us oldies 😏). I like what @anatudor.bsky.social does with their `@supports` notes her demos.

Cleaning up my owned music and audio files, and this has surfaced itself. Do I delete the wonderful @adactio.com, @hicks.design, @meyerweb.com @tantek.com.web.brid.gy and Molly (RIP) from my disk? 🤔 I should really listen to this to see if anything has gotten better in the last 2 decades…

Since 2022, I've started adding conditional support info boxes in the actual demos via `@supports`. They've gone through quite a few iterations since: codepen.io/thebabydino/... codepen.io/thebabydino/... But I've eventually settled on just showing them if something's off.

I'm guilty of this in a recent post about text underlines, I quickly started peppering with support disclaimers.

This is a beautiful blog post and I love the work that went into the demos: ishadeed.com/article/css-... Took me to getting entirely to the end of the post to realise none of it worked because I use Firefox. I do wish we'd get better at marking "at time of writing X is supported/broken".

Just helping with editing here. These bots aren’t sentient. They’re doing what they’re programmed to do. OpenAI, a private company supposedly bound by laws, committed federal crimes.

Since writing this post (originally 2 weeks ago), I've started to warm much more to Victor Mono. Re: breaking widths, I _think_ that's what's actually happening, though I do need to pick through your CSS in detail and compare to pull the bits I really do need (and likely eject my dodgy css!)

Made the mistake of buying LinkNLink presence sensor a year ago. It regularly signs me out and drops connectivity, and the latest update, I can't sign in so doing a password reset and selected *Europe* to then be presented with this:
From what I can tell from the screenshot it is a with a tiny bit of English text in the background and there's a dialogue that's asking me a question where there is a blue button and a grey button whilst having no idea what any of it means

I love the quotes we get from attendees of @ffconf.org. And how cute do @hereinthehive.bsky.social and @hannahc.bsky.social look! It's the people that make the events. I look forward to this feeling each time.

I find that the search hard to reach and cumbersome in the Navidrome web app. Feels like quickly finding is one thing that needs to be easy for me to grab. I do like that this alt UI focuses around making a play queue too.

I actually quite liked the bare bones of tinysub.devins.page - especially as I can clone it and host in our home network, then the kids can manage their own playlists (and I can make my own customisations since it's relatively simple). It's just not so pretty.

But if they're looking at re-implementing, my feeling is it makes sense to repurpose it - because then some sites will automatically benefit from it. Plus, easier sell to the old dogs like me: "remember lowsrc, you can use it again"

It took me quite a while to work out how I was going to drill this long screw in at an angle like this *and* keep everything study. I was pretty chuffed when it all worked. Of course, I'd attached the wood to the wrong side and had to take it all apart afterwards, because…I've no real idea!
Two planks of wood set on their narrow edge upright perpendicular to each other. Clamps all over the place and looking precarious as fuck.

I know that the bluesky web site (and app, I think) adds metadata to posts to indicate where the "rich" facets are, and I'm sure I've seen a few of my own posts in the past not create links. I wonder if it's a pasting bug on bluesky's side 🤔
