Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 26/09/2026don't be an idiot! make a 3d game ? or don't be an idiot by making a 3d game ? 000
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 24/04/2026Super cool. I wonder if it would be possible to have it animate downward across a few frames on impact rather than appearing all at once. 120
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 23/04/2026Finally migrating off Vimeo in favor of self hosting videos on my website. Feels good - been meaning to make the shift for ages. #indiedev #b3d 040
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 09/04/2026Let me know if you're looking for more specific than that :) 000
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 09/04/2026Yes! I'm really interested in your asset pipeline, sustainable workflow stuff for small teams. Your environment art workflow, texturing (I know you discuss this already in a few blogs), going back and forth between Blender and the engine, etc. And just your art direction in general is amazing. 150
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 09/04/2026This is super cool. Any chance you'll write more blog posts about your process here? Truly gold info you have on your website! 110
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 09/04/2026It might not even be the element of chance that feels exploitative to me, but just the structural edge a casino (or software equivalent) has over the outcome. Is it unethical if it's truly random with equal weights? Lots of unanswered questions. 000
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 09/04/2026So is it about whether skill or chance is the dominant factor in determining the outcome? Chess passes this easily. Slot machines fail. Poker is somewhere in the middle. 100
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 09/04/2026With gambling I usually picture some element of chance, and how "the house always wins." There's a lack of control, which makes it unfair. It gets murkier introducing some chance alongside some skill. Chess is 0% luck, but many games have a bit of RNG that makes it a combo of luck and skill. 100
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 09/04/2026Is betting on the outcome of your own performance considered gambling? Put another way, let's say you're playing a game of chess with a friend, and you each put $20 into the pot which will go to the winner. Is this gambling? 🧵 #gamedev #indiedev 192
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 08/04/2026AI can't write well because it was trained to produce what's expected. Great writing is never what's expected. Even GPT-2 was more creative than today's frontier models. Every post-training constraint that improved reliability degraded creativity. AI's limitations are human comparative advantages. 010
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 29/03/2026It’s so cool! I was amazed how easy the IK modifier nodes are to use when I first started playing with them. 010
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 26/03/2026Game is really shaping up! Do you have a sense of what the game loop is going to be, or still experimenting? 110
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 23/03/2026All your custom tools are super inspiring! Love seeing behind the curtain on your work in Godot. 020
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 20/03/2026The practically universal pushback on DLSS 5 from both game developers and gamers has me feeling optimistic, and relieved that this tech isn't just being welcomed with open arms. Realism is tired. Stylized is where it's at! #indiedev #gamedev #godot 0225
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 19/03/2026Total game changer! I use a good old fashioned alarm clock. The biggest boon for me is that my phone isn't the first thing I look at in the morning. 110
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 19/03/2026Going to test it out, try to find its boundaries, and see if it really is the answer to my problems. 010
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 19/03/2026Looks like Photopea might be my Photoshop replacement on Linux. Browser based but runs/saves everything fully locally. Has basically every feature Photoshop has that I use, + works with PSDs. Closed source, but that's fine by me bc it doesn't use a proprietary file format, so no lock in. #indiedev 130
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 18/03/2026Nice thanks for the insight. I haven't used substance painter much so I maybe don't know what I'm missing but I'm always game to try new tools and don't mind paying for good ones! Will explore. Have you tried Material Maker? Open source alt to something like substance designer. 130
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 18/03/2026I'm a big Ucupaint user, and lately I've been learning 3DCoat to fill in Blender's texture painting shortcomings. I'm curious about your thoughts re: combining MatPlus and Ucupaint - what does the former add to your pipeline that Ucupaint doesn't cover? 210
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 18/03/2026Thanks! Super clean. I have a special interest in low poly hand painted rocks haha. 010
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 17/03/2026Did you make this video from 3 years ago? I literally just watched it yesterday! I was experimenting with light cookies in Godot, and didn't know about the PR to add the feature to directional lights! Super exciting. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMUT...youtube.comDappled lighting using light cookies - Unity TutorialYouTube video by Stone Baked Games 230
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 17/03/2026So fantastic. The model too is so clean! I assume you're working with the Ucupaint addon for the painting? I've been learning 3DCoat, which is this dedicated 3D hand painting software (and sculpting too, but I don't do any sculpting) which solves a lot of my gripes with Blender's texture painting. 110
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 17/03/2026Unrelated to the DLSS stuff, Rafael out of curiosity what project is this for? I love your hand painted skin/hair and the mid-poly look! 210
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 16/03/2026I need your small game recommendations! What are people's favorite browser games on itch? I'm trying to play more tiny games ✨ to fill my creative cup, so to speak. Your own games count too ;) #indiegames #indiedev #gamedev 195
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 16/03/2026Totally. The gameplay is pretty fast so the movement needs to be somewhat snappy but I'll tune the curves! 020
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 16/03/2026Might be worth giving it another try! Godot 4.x has come a long way since 4.0, plus I think you'd probably really enjoy working with Jolt physics! Also you can switch the new theme back to classic in the settings :) 100
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 15/03/2026Tibo I think you're one of 4 people that uses blender/godot in light mode lol 110
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 15/03/2026Does this look like the appropriate amount of wiggle on the hat? Trying to strike a balance between noticeable but not distracting. #godot #indiedev #gamedev 2241
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 15/03/2026Pleasantly surprised how easy it is to add jiggle physics in #Godot with the SpringBoneSimulator3D. Look at the little wizard hats! Also! This is the first look at my current project, a multiplayer tennis game with magic and spells! Art is still super WIP but it's coming along! #indiedev #gamedev 2274
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 15/03/2026Excellent book! One of my favs and something I return to often. 000
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 14/03/2026Using vertex color painting in Blender to add moss on top of my stone tiles, w/ a grunge texture mask to make the edges crispy + more detailed. Thanks @passivestar.bsky.social for the basis of this method! Slowly locking in the asset pipeline for my current project. #godot #indiedev #gamedev #b3d 0142
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 14/03/2026The difference is that in B the little particles get sucked in right? Both are great – I personally like B more. 110
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 13/03/2026I love your rope physics! And I saw in the other video they have collisions too! Is this a custom implementation? 110
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 13/03/2026I try my best to avoid trailers for any movie I'm looking forward to seeing, when possible. They give so much away! I think I remember reading somewhere that statistically they sell more tickets if they tell the audience how it's going to end... smh 000
Reid Hannaford @reid.work · 13/03/2026This morning's experiments in #MaterialMaker! I'm totally in love with procedural texturing. Something a little more stylized this time. #godot #gamedev #indiedev 083
