Walk with me, friend! 💚 Less than a month ago, I joined @namiccns.bsky.social, and I've already seen how much this community relies on the work we do. One in five adults lives with a mental health condition, and too many face it alone, without the support or understanding they deserve.

Remember those long lines for summer camp registration in Chicago? If you're a parent, the hottest ticket in town was the Chicago Park District — and there weren't enough spots to go around. Over the past ten years, these parks have seen some of the biggest drops in activities in the city.

When Mildred Jenkins found a home at Deborah's Place, it was one of the best things that ever happened to her. After a year in the shelter, she got her own furnished apartment through the nonprofit's Permanent Supportive Housing program — a bed, a dining table, access to food and health services.

2.5 weeks ago, I emailed the proposal to Parks Superintendent Ramirez-Rosa, Chief Homelessness Officer Soto, and Department of Family & Support Services Commissioner Green and asked for comment. After a nudge, I received the attached. "The closure will proceed on March 17 as planned."
The City of Chicago is always open to conversations with the community regarding how we can best serve all residents. It is clear a great deal of thought and care went into the creation of the alternative proposal to the closure of the Legion Park encampment, which has the backing of many of our unhoused community’s strongest supporters, whose work we respect. However, the decision to close the Legion Park encampment was made with significant consideration, and the closure will proceed on March 17 as planned. We remain grateful for the strong network of advocates looking out for the interests of our unhoused community -- their work is vital as together we continue to navigate the challenge of homelessness.

A Feb. 25, 2026, Accelerated Moving Event (AME) led by the Department of Family and Support Services successfully matched 16 Legion Park encampment residents with affordable housing units. Two other encampment residents who registered for the AME but did not attend have also been connected with housing providers and can still choose a unit. All encampment residents, regardless of whether they were part of the AME, continue to be offered shelter placement ahead of the encampment closure; DFSS has secured ample bed availability and a range of shelter options and locations for this purpose.Anyone experiencing or at risk of homelessness is welcome to call the city’s 3-1-1 service line for shelter placement or 2-1-1 service line to learn about other available support options. These options include food; connection to housing; substance abuse evaluation for treatment; mental health support and connections for treatment; verification of disability; and assistance with securing vital documents, including State ID cards.

We believe the grounds for our member’s termination are retaliatory and intended to send a chilling message: that, though TRiiBE leadership claims to support “workers’ rights to unionize,” they don’t actually mean it.
Corli has been the community investment reporter at The TRiiBE for nearly two years, during which she has gone above and beyond in her role. In fact, The TRiiBE surpassed one million page views on its website largely due to Corli’s reporting on Cook County’s guaranteed income program.

She is a dogged and compassionate reporter who’s integral not only to The TRiiBE team but also to Chicago’s media ecosystem.
