Now we’re letting murderers run in the Sydney marathon. 🙄 I hope they realise what drew the previous huge crowd to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It might be time for a repeat performance.

For #showmeyourknits shawl week, I’ve made many shawls, but this one is definitely the most cosy one and one of the largest! Details in alt text. 🧶 #shawl #knitsky
Woman with grey hair styled in a bun, wearing teal coloured glasses. She is standing in front of a brick wall featuring a few pot plants and she is wearing a large knitted shawl featuring a mix of autumn colours - ochre, merlot, green, cream and rust. The pattern name is the Artus Shawl, designed by Natasja Hornby and is mostly knitted from De Rerum Natura Ulysse french merino.

I organised our little local WWKIP day but forgot to take any photos! So I’ve included the poster I made without using AI, for the #showmeyourknits theme this week. 🧶 #knitsky
Poster for World Wide Knit in Public Day. The banner across the top reads World Wide Knit in Public Day Sat 13 June 2026. The middle section features an image of a girl with blonde hair, sitting cross-legged, knitting a small square shape. There is a text box below with event details, and finally a text box across the bottom of the poster stating “This poster was created WITHOUT using AI”

How very timely that a yellow themed #showmeyourknits should appear on the heels of a newly completed shawl for my mother, who has recently gone into aged care! It’s on its way to her now but I snapped a few shots last week before I posted it. #knitsky 🧶
Yellow knitted shawl draped over a cast iron bed end. The shawl features a garter stitch body with a deep lace edging. The lace edging is resting on a muted wine coloured bed cover decorated with printed flowers and leaves.
Pattern is Solveig Shawl by Valentina Bogdanova, yarn is a blend of merino and possum from Louie and Lola Yarns in Australia.Close up of the lace edging on a yellow knitted shawl. It is draped over an enamelled cast iron bed head in front of an ochre coloured mud brick wall.

A longstanding WIP from me for this week’s #showmeyourknits theme. I’m aiming to get it finished by mid-July, so fingers crossed. It’s been such a slow knit with many tiny stitches and tiny needles. 🧶 #knitsky
Partially knitted black and white jumper resting on a dark grey metal table. The jumper features bands of shetland motifs, with alternating black on white, and white on black backgrounds interspersed with smaller bands of tiny motifs (peerie patterns). The pattern is Jemima’s Jumper and Cowl, from the Shetland Wool Week Annual 2022, and is designed by Donna Smith. I’ve used Isager Highland wool for the natural colour, and Rennie Supersoft lambswool in charcoal.

For this week’s #showmeyourknits theme, “wearing your knits”, is a younger, slimmer me wearing my heavily modified version of Henry VIII, very likely unapproved by Alice!
Woman standing in front of a tree on a grassy field. She is wearing a sleeveless knitted tunic length top, featuring stranded colourwork. Pattern is Henry VIII designed by Alice Starmore, knitted in the gorgeous Hebridean 2ply yarn from Virtual Yarns, also developed by Alice Starmore.

I haven’t made any lace projects for a while, but this was my first foray into knitting Japanese patterns, and it somehow feels just right for #showmeyourknits lace week! It’s now almost 15 years old, but I love it just as much now. 🧶 #knitsky

Author @longwayhomestead.bsky.social asked American wool advocate @claraparkes.bsky.social if she would write the foreword to THE TRUE COST OF WOOL many months ago. Then, as we rushed to get the book out because it is so relevant to our current conversation about where our goods come from...
A large speech bubble with a stylized quotation mark reads: "Synthetic fibers take from a finite supply of virgin petroleum and return only fodder for the landfill. At the other end of the spectrum we have wool, which doesn't come from a well, barrel, tub, or spigot... In fact, all you really need is some land and water and sunshine." – Clara Parkes, in the foreword.
