The new Mountain Dew Trolli flavor is pretty good, though honestly a lot of these "VooDEW" flavors taste extremely similar to one another over the years. What has been your favorite Mountain Dew flavor over the years? 👀 Mine was probably the unconfirmed skittles VooDEW.
An over half full bottle of Zero Sugar Mountain Dew Trolli Mango Pineapple Punch soda.

I've been a bit stumped when it comes to working on my project here lately, so tonight I did what any sane game developer would do: changed the sunny, vibrant environment to a dark, moodier and rainy environment. #gamedev #indiedev #godot

My friend suggested I add the Wilhelm Scream to it, so here it is... disregard the Wind Waker music I am using as inspiration. 👀

I managed to work on the game for an hour tonight (an usual time block) and decided to implement an extremely basic combat system which consists simply of clicking the mouse to make your baguette-looking sword appear and damage a platypus-looking placeholder enemy. #godotengine #gamedev #indiedev

Lots of people do! He's supposed to just be a placeholder until I get actual models made, but maybe I'm gonna have to keep him somehow.

Here's a video I made today showcasing progress and giving a sneak peek at my project. There's still lots to do, but with how little I've been able to sit and work on it I'm actually quite happy with how far along the little mohawk capsule dude has come. 🥹 #gamedev #indiedev #indiegame

It's been a stressful week or two. For a visit from corporate at the store I manage. Hopefully now that it's all over tomorrow I can start working on my game dev projects again. I couldn't put much energy into anything else but work this week. 😭

Godot, actually! Pretty sure it's being caused by the SDFGI settings and probably how thin I've made my walls. I'm not super worried about it right now, but I'll have to fix it eventually haha.

Here's a video of what I did with my girlfriend dictating how everything's done with the 2nd project. I'm dismissing her call to buy assets and use them since we don't even know what we're building yet. 🤷 Not sure why there's light bleeding through the walls. #gamedev #indiedev #screenshotsaturday

She's doing the story and coming up with the ideas, and I'm just doing what she asks. It's slightly aggravating at times because she's acting like she knows better than me despite having never done anything like this before, but what can ya do? I'm just happy she's interested in it.

Last night, my girlfriend told me she wanted to make a game. I got on the laptop and started making a test scene with a house built using CSG in Godot Engine 4.7. Let me tell you, the new vertex snapping feature is a game changer for level design. It is freaking phenomenal. #gamedev #indiedev

I let another person play test my prototype and it was even more insightful than the first: new bugs uncovered, new gameplay mechanics and ideas from feedback + observations... I was worried I'd lose interest once I let people play, but now I'm just ready to make it better. #gamedev #indiedev

I got hit with sickness Wednesday evening after watching the first play test of my game, so I decided to take time to recuperate instead of working on it more. I only get between 3 to 5 hours each week to work on it, so it's hard to not feel like I'm setting myself back a bit. #gamedev #indiedev

RedChu @redchu.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
That's so true. I'm making it a point to watch them play rather than asking how it went because seeing things through their eyes, so to speak, shows a lot more than whatever they would be able to put into words. I used to just send it off and ask for feedback which was not very helpful at all.

Yesterday was the first private play test of my WIP game. It did not go as expected due to bugs that I thought I fixed prior to exporting it, so I'll have to look into that. Regardless, I got some good feedback just from observing and am excited to do another play test soon! #gamedev #indiedev

I did take a brief video of this as well. I unfortunately didn't get any more video recorded than this other than some in editor things, but tomorrow after the play tests I should have some more footage from those who are testing the prototype. 👀 #gamedev #indiedev #indiegame

This morning I added a new area to and... lots of trees. Tomorrow morning I'll be putting in some collectibles, another NPC, more dialogue, and placeholder SFX/music for the July 1st private playtest. I'm so freaking excited to let people play this, even if it's barely anything. #gamedev #indiedev

I might come to regret my decision later once I'm through my initial prototyping phase, but I feel like if I get this built now the way that I want it to be that rebuilding systems won't be nearly as problematic. I only need to fix what's not working versus trying to predict the future beforehand.

RedChu @redchu.bsky.social · 29/06/2026
I've taken a step back with project now and started building what I need without future proofing it, and the results have been so rewarding. I have so much accomplished in a short amount of time - I would probably be still trying to perfect my camera controlled if I was trying to be perfect.

I've come to the realization that younger me didn't care about how I did things as long as it worked, and today me tries to make everything perfect based on what I think future me will need. The problem with this is that I don't make any progress outside of building systems. #gamedev #indiedev

This upcoming Wednesday July 1st is the target for the first "not me" play test. I'm nervous. I never let others play my projects, especially not when they're so bare bones and ugly as this one. It's been a strange development cycle for me to not make things perfect. #gamedev #indiedev

I wasn't feeling what I was going to work on today, so I added trees to the world and closed off some open spots from the initial rough design phase. 🤷 I also got system messages working so I don't have to print to console. A lot is planned for tomorrow. 👀 #gamedev #indiedev #screenshotsaturday

I'm surprising myself with how much I'm getting done in such a short amount of time by focusing on making things functional now instead of trying to make the perfect, scalable system right off the bat. Currently adding stretch goals to my plan of having a playtest by July 1st. 👀 #gamedev #indiedev

I have a basic opening area for my project now, but I have to keep telling myself this is a prototype and not the finished product. There's a lot of things I want to go back and polish, but if I do I risk losing momentum to get my core game loop built first. It's a struggle. 👀 #gamedev #indiedev

A month today I started my Godot project, working on it the mornings of my days off. Progress has been slow but steady. l've been ignoring my desire for perfection and focusing on making it functional before polishing. It's been pretty rewarding seeing it come together. #gamedev #indiedev

After about an hour and a half of work, I have a rough, walkable layout for the "start" my project. It ain't pretty... but it's something that actually makes me feel like this is going to turn into the game I want it to be, and that in itself is beautiful enough for me right now. #gamedev #indiedev

Kid Link looks a little weird, I'll admit. But I'm waiting to see actual gameplay first ... The new Star Fox remake also looks weird, though, so I don't have too high of hopes lol

Make them to prove to yourself you are capable and to bring your ideas to reality. Not everyone will like what you produce, but not everyone will dislike it, either. As for programming, it's easy for me to say it's not hard but I've been doing it for 20 years. 🤷 But some engines you don't have to.

The good thing about pseudocode is that it doesn't have to conform to a specific syntax, so you can write it in a way that makes sense to you and later convert it to the programming language you need. 😅

RedChu @redchu.bsky.social · 08/06/2026
GameMaker is your best choice for that, then. My go-to game to make when learning a new engine is always Pong lol
010
RedChu @redchu.bsky.social · 08/06/2026
I actually did that when I worked my old job. It's great to jot down some ideas, thoughts, designs... but I am primarily coding first so I ended up using it to write pseudocode lmao

Game Maker is great. That's what I started with in my game development journey, but it has changed so much over the years since YoYo Games took over. It's still a good engine, though, but I definitely fell in love with Godot primarily for its 3D capabilities.

"To make a game, all you need is a blank piece of paper and a few big ideas." Words from a making-of Spyro the Dragon video that have stuck with me for years... obviously there's a lot more to it than that, but at least pen and paper is accessible when I'm not at my computer. 🤷 #gamedev #indiedev

I'm actually pretty excited to see a new Spyro game being released next year. Spyro is the reason I make games today... it's nice to get a new entry, and hopefully one that sticks true to the original trilogy. 👀

Generalized tutorials are going to teach you specific things, but if you know exactly what you want to make you might be better off just looking up each specific thing you're trying to do and also reading the Godot docs. That's how I learned, at least.

I personally stopped using Twitter a couple of years ago when the whole pay to verify things started and jumped here to Bluesky. I feel this is a lot better for the game dev side of things, but maybe I just wasn't on the right side of Twitter. 🤷 I don't care to find out though haha.

To answer your question, you just have to balance everything as best you can: find that little time you're able to do some work, and then use it with no distractions. Don't neglect your life or energy. Don't force work. Take care of yourself, but keep momentum wherever you can even if it's tiny.
