The new Mountain Dew Trolli flavor is pretty good, though honestly a lot of these "VooDEW" flavors taste extremely similar to one another over the years. What has been your favorite Mountain Dew flavor over the years? 👀 Mine was probably the unconfirmed skittles VooDEW.
An over half full bottle of Zero Sugar Mountain Dew Trolli Mango Pineapple Punch soda.

I've been a bit stumped when it comes to working on my project here lately, so tonight I did what any sane game developer would do: changed the sunny, vibrant environment to a dark, moodier and rainy environment. #gamedev #indiedev #godot

I managed to work on the game for an hour tonight (an usual time block) and decided to implement an extremely basic combat system which consists simply of clicking the mouse to make your baguette-looking sword appear and damage a platypus-looking placeholder enemy. #godotengine #gamedev #indiedev

Here's a video I made today showcasing progress and giving a sneak peek at my project. There's still lots to do, but with how little I've been able to sit and work on it I'm actually quite happy with how far along the little mohawk capsule dude has come. 🥹 #gamedev #indiedev #indiegame

It's been a stressful week or two. For a visit from corporate at the store I manage. Hopefully now that it's all over tomorrow I can start working on my game dev projects again. I couldn't put much energy into anything else but work this week. 😭

Here's a video of what I did with my girlfriend dictating how everything's done with the 2nd project. I'm dismissing her call to buy assets and use them since we don't even know what we're building yet. 🤷 Not sure why there's light bleeding through the walls. #gamedev #indiedev #screenshotsaturday

Last night, my girlfriend told me she wanted to make a game. I got on the laptop and started making a test scene with a house built using CSG in Godot Engine 4.7. Let me tell you, the new vertex snapping feature is a game changer for level design. It is freaking phenomenal. #gamedev #indiedev

I let another person play test my prototype and it was even more insightful than the first: new bugs uncovered, new gameplay mechanics and ideas from feedback + observations... I was worried I'd lose interest once I let people play, but now I'm just ready to make it better. #gamedev #indiedev

I got hit with sickness Wednesday evening after watching the first play test of my game, so I decided to take time to recuperate instead of working on it more. I only get between 3 to 5 hours each week to work on it, so it's hard to not feel like I'm setting myself back a bit. #gamedev #indiedev

Yesterday was the first private play test of my WIP game. It did not go as expected due to bugs that I thought I fixed prior to exporting it, so I'll have to look into that. Regardless, I got some good feedback just from observing and am excited to do another play test soon! #gamedev #indiedev

I did take a brief video of this as well. I unfortunately didn't get any more video recorded than this other than some in editor things, but tomorrow after the play tests I should have some more footage from those who are testing the prototype. 👀 #gamedev #indiedev #indiegame

This morning I added a new area to and... lots of trees. Tomorrow morning I'll be putting in some collectibles, another NPC, more dialogue, and placeholder SFX/music for the July 1st private playtest. I'm so freaking excited to let people play this, even if it's barely anything. #gamedev #indiedev

I've come to the realization that younger me didn't care about how I did things as long as it worked, and today me tries to make everything perfect based on what I think future me will need. The problem with this is that I don't make any progress outside of building systems. #gamedev #indiedev

This upcoming Wednesday July 1st is the target for the first "not me" play test. I'm nervous. I never let others play my projects, especially not when they're so bare bones and ugly as this one. It's been a strange development cycle for me to not make things perfect. #gamedev #indiedev

I wasn't feeling what I was going to work on today, so I added trees to the world and closed off some open spots from the initial rough design phase. 🤷 I also got system messages working so I don't have to print to console. A lot is planned for tomorrow. 👀 #gamedev #indiedev #screenshotsaturday

I'm surprising myself with how much I'm getting done in such a short amount of time by focusing on making things functional now instead of trying to make the perfect, scalable system right off the bat. Currently adding stretch goals to my plan of having a playtest by July 1st. 👀 #gamedev #indiedev

Hm... now the question is: do I update my prototype or 4.7 or stick with 4.6.2? 👀

I have a basic opening area for my project now, but I have to keep telling myself this is a prototype and not the finished product. There's a lot of things I want to go back and polish, but if I do I risk losing momentum to get my core game loop built first. It's a struggle. 👀 #gamedev #indiedev

A month today I started my Godot project, working on it the mornings of my days off. Progress has been slow but steady. l've been ignoring my desire for perfection and focusing on making it functional before polishing. It's been pretty rewarding seeing it come together. #gamedev #indiedev

After about an hour and a half of work, I have a rough, walkable layout for the "start" my project. It ain't pretty... but it's something that actually makes me feel like this is going to turn into the game I want it to be, and that in itself is beautiful enough for me right now. #gamedev #indiedev

"To make a game, all you need is a blank piece of paper and a few big ideas." Words from a making-of Spyro the Dragon video that have stuck with me for years... obviously there's a lot more to it than that, but at least pen and paper is accessible when I'm not at my computer. 🤷 #gamedev #indiedev

I'm actually pretty excited to see a new Spyro game being released next year. Spyro is the reason I make games today... it's nice to get a new entry, and hopefully one that sticks true to the original trilogy. 👀

It's no secret I struggle with staying focused and on track. Since I can't do any actually dev work on my project today, I decided to build a Trello roadmap to help keep me in line to maximize progress with each session. 👀 We'll see if it works lol #indiedev #gamedev

One task, "Build Home," is currently in the "Doing" column, while numerous future tasks remain in the "To Do" column. The image highlights the project's development roadmap and progress tracking without revealing specific upcoming features or plans.

I managed to sneak in just under 2 hours of work on my game this morning. I avoided doing any coding or tweaking things and just focused on making an actual playable environment to capture the feeling I'm going for... this is what I came up with. It's ugly, but it works. 🤷‍♂️ #indiedev #gamedev #godot

After today's 30 minute session, I now have a nice little playground for capsule mohawk dude to run and jump around in. Next will be getting the gravity to feel more like what I'm going for. This is starting to feel like the game I'm trying to make with each session. 👀 #indiegame #gamedev

Finally starting to feel a little better after whatever disease attacked my sinuses this week. Unfortunately, life continues to be incredibly hostile toward the "come home and work on your game dev project" lifestyle I'm trying. 😭 Still plotting it out in my head all day, though. #indiedev

I didn't do much gamedev this evening as I'm fighting off a crud, but we did get some new pots for our herbs. There's something weirdly satisfying about growing things... whether it's plants or weird little capsule mohawk dudes in Godot. 🤷 It's been a productive day at least. #indiedev #gardening

if there's one thing i've rebuilt 47 times, it's a third-person controller 😭 this time I'm focusing less on perfecting systems and more on crafting something that feels good. mohawk capsule dude can now run around the grassy planes with an orbiting camera. that's progress. 👀 #gamedev #indiedev

I think one of the biggest challenges in gamedev as an adult is preserving momentum when life starts throwing responsibilities, exhaustion, and other randomness at you every day. 💀 I'm still thinking about my little prototype mohawk capsule dude today at work, tho. priorities #gamedev #indiedev

I had this stash of Pokemon Sun & Moon team up blisters since they came out... kinda forgot about it until a few weeks ago when I checked up on the price on eBay... Let's just say some of them have been selling for around $400-$500 a pack. 😭
Two rows of numerous Sun & Moon: Team Up Pokémon Trading Card Game checklane blister packs laid out on a wooden surface. The top row features packs with a Pikachu promo card, while the bottom row features packs with a Mimikyu promo card. Each blister pack includes one booster pack, a promo card, and a metallic Pokémon coin.

My daily commute to and from work is just at 80 miles round trip. At 5 days per week, just to and from work, that is 400 miles per week or essentially 1 fill up of my gas tank. This doesn't include going anywhere else, so with that I will roughly be spending $250/wk in gas at current prices.

I've come to the realization that when you live something pretty much every waking moment that you have, it stops becoming fun at some point. I think that's why I'm so desperate to recapture the fun I used to have as a kid or even a teen... Life just has a way of sucking the joy out of you.

I guess 2026 is the year of clogged toilets for me. My main line keeps getting clogged and I have to rent a 50-ft auger each time to clear it out. This time, however, I'm going to go get some drain cleaner and hope that it works. I'm tired of spending $70 a day on a freaking auger.

I guess about once or twice a year I try to turn my phone into something fresh, because I did it again... I just want to recapture that whimsical feeling of when we first got smartphones. Everything felt fun and unique, but now it feels like a blended mess of chaos and stupidity at every unlock...

Drawing with references I don't do terribly bad, but trying to draw blind -- especially not front facing perspectives -- is a current weakness (as evident by my wild boy pictures here).
Pencil sketched attempt at a 45ish angled head. It's bad.

I've decided to start trying to learn how to draw stylized faces on sketch paper because I'm totally not supposed to be working on a game dev project in my spare time... drawing is hard when you don't know what you're doing, though. Such is everything, I guess.

I'm currently working on an inventory system for my project and trying to get as much done as I can today since I'm back to work tomorrow after a week hiatus. I've enjoyed my time away from the daily grind... I just wish I could do game dev full-time and not have to worry about working retail. 😅

Happy New Year! While everyone else is coming up with different resolutions, I'm still going to be flying by the seat of my pants in this chaotic soup we call life. Though, I do wanna save up at least $15,000 this year. And publish a game. AND make it to 2027 a better person than I started 2026.
