Trying to maintain the myth that most of us with long-term #sobriety were perfect is problematic. It can create shame for those who can't live up to this false standard, discourage continued effort, and increase stigma. And it's simply untrue. Let's be honest about how recovery really works.

This is a tough one. A long time ago (mid-90s), I was in college & feeling ambivalent about it. BUT, I was in a "post-grunge" band that meant everything to me. I literally thought that we'd all just be sitting on a porch at 80, talking shit. Rest in peace Danny Phelps. You were the best of us. 💔

I'm not a "turn over your will and your life" believer. But I did have to learn that I couldn't control all outcomes. My trauma history made me afraid that any minor mistake would explode my life, so I felt I had to be perfect. An impossible goal. Do your best, mostly that's enough, sometimes not.
