How can a test series between 1 and 2 on the WTC table not be available to watch at all (paid or free) in Japan? I was able to watch all of England's tests, WIvPakistan, AusvBangladesh & more, but not this. 🏏 #SAvAus #cricket

As a long-time resident of Japan I'm pretty confident in saying their governments, and especially this one, are very conservative and do not sign up to anything that could be seen as remotely radical. That shows where Australia is right now.

I've seen Viv, Tendulkar, Lara, Kallis, Smith etc, but maybe Lara because he was so ruthless and looked so hard to get out once he was in. Gower and Mark Waugh made batting look easy.

So, as you can't be in two places at once, is Beth Mooney saying she's willing to give up the ₹2.5 crore (approx. US$260,000) she earned at the 2026 WPL auction (or similar) to play in Australia, obviously for much less? Can't see the WPL agreeing to move its schedule to suit anyone else.

Paul @rebel77.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
It would be nice, but as you point out, the BBL which is a BIG moneymaker for CA already has that slot as well as the prime Dec/Jan days. It is too profitable to move. Only the BBL and Men's Aus-Eng & Aus-Ind tests make a profit. There's no financial incentive for CA to change.

Well, "some other women's cricket teams" don't have their season at the exact same time as the all-powerful WPL. England's cricket season obviously isn't in January or February.

Paul @rebel77.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Yes, I was just thinking the same thing. It's easy to point out problems, much harder to come up with solutions, especially when you might have to sacrifice something yourself.

Paul @rebel77.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
So, & this is completely hypothetical, would those players decline a WPL contract to play for Australia (obv. for much less money) if CA did schedule matches at the same time? (I don't see the WPL/BCCI budging for anyone). I'd like to hear Beth & co. answer that.

Well, China and the US did oppose Japan in WW2. They may not have been close allies as such but it is a fact they both fought Japanese militarist aggression. I don't understand why Japan would be confused.
