I wonder if the prequel short story that I didn’t read gives the characters the depth they seem to be lacking in the book I’m reading. But I don’t care enough about them to figure it out. I just think that I’m 50% through and the only reason they have for doing things is “romance reasons.”

Ivy the southern sea otter lies very primly on her tummy with her front paws gently resting on bright green "carwash" kelp. (Carwash kelp is fake kelp made from strips of the same tough material they use on those big spinners in automatic car washes) Ivy has bright golden blonde fur on her head and chest, just beginning to extend down the tops of her front arms.
