Just a bunch of crabs in a trench coat, but also a professor of marine biology. My social media does not represent my employer. No AI. Please bring croissants 🥐 linktr.ee/rebeccarhelm

So fascinating. I love this. How big is your class?

Thank you for pointing this out. You make a thoughtful point, and I’m curious to learn more. Can you tell who the person or people are who initiated and are running the Eve process? Are they running other processes on BlueSky?

Interesting take. I see your point regarding a spectrum, but what do you feel like is increasing or decreasing (also sorry you got honey potted in my comments by an AI)

I mean, you joke, but one hypothesis I have heard is that biology is more of an awarness filter, than than an origin of awareness haver

This is why blood sugar and blood pressure can dangerously spike during pregnancy, fetal tissue in the placenta secretes hormones into the parental blood stream that raise these too much. But of course, a lot of corporation also needs to happen here, too

Rebecca R Helm @rebeccarhelm.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Is the uterine lining. The idea now goes that it is a kind of selective barrier, only really strong embryos can get through. The placenta itself is a hybrid organ, formed with both parental and fetal tissue, so there’s constant battle happening (for example, in the secretion of hormones)

Rebecca R Helm @rebeccarhelm.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Let me see if I understand: it used to be believed that this lining was really advantageous for an embryo, where it could implant on a safe environment. We’ve since learned from ectopic and abdominal pregnancies that embryos can basically implant anywhere, & one of the LEAST welcoming environments…

I’ve heard it’s similar to the underground market for eyelashes among scientists who study the nematode worm C. elegans. A good eyelash is the perfect scooper for a tiny worm. If you’ve got good lashes, they WILL ask you for some.

Ahhhhh hahahhaha omg! So for others who don’t get why Kim saved her kids hair for me: Developmental biologists manipulate very tiny embryos under microscopes, and baby hair (particularly Norwegian paper hair) is the perfect mix of flexible yet firm. It’s a treasured commodity among some labs 🫠
