In this article @aalto.fi colleagues recast “AI” as a massive abstract statistical system (MASS), which “intervenes in the misdirection that occurs when LLMs are ascribed intelligence, creativity, and humanity”. Everyone should start using MASS!!

Love this QM take on the (un)ambivalence of the erotic in politics: VITAL for NOW. Reminds me of Audre Lorde’s 🙏🏼 “Fascism eroticises the destructive restoration of hierarchies of human value, while queerness eroticises the restorative destruction of hierarchical classifications of human beings” 🕊️

In one corner, the reflective CFR (looking back to what actually happened in the population). In the other, the fantastical TFR (looking forward based on an averaged “imaginary woman”). Nothing wrong with fantasy of course but it’s good to know the different personalities of these metrics.

Super interesting study that calls into question the somatic/reproductive cell distinction and focus of fertility-oriented cell biology. Exciting moment to be questioning core distinctions, focuses and to keep widening basic science research frameworks. Where can we go from here? 👣 🌍

Love this from @pwgtennant.bsky.social critique, highlighting the problem with “international comparisons”. I wish there was more work on this in relation to the #TotalFertilityRate (TFR) metric itself, which is a highly abstract metric and the most commonly used to make international comparisons.
