Last night, I was awarded a Regents’ Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award by the University System of Georgia at their annual Regents’ Gala. Congrats to my colleague Kerri Taylor who was the other CSU awardee and got the Felton Jenkins Jr. Hall of Fame Award.

Note: we call all certificates under a certain number of credits “undergraduate” but we have people in/have completed the certificate with undergraduate and/or graduate degrees or are pursuing one.

My tenure letter arrived today, a day I never thought I’d see (those of you who know my history understand why). I did it. I really did it.

I’m devastated by the loss of David Lynch, whose work has had such an impact on me. Have some damn fine coffee, up there!

Reminds me of the year AMS was in the same hotel as the Kentucky Muscle Competition…

Do I know anyone who writes album reviews or concert reviews not targeted toward academics or does any other type of public writing, broadly defined (for instance, podcast scripts count) who might be willing to virtually visit my public musicology class this spring?

Looking forward to co-facilitating a workshop on the #unessay at #OAH24 on Friday at 3:30 with two historian powerhouses: @geekypedagogy.bsky.social and @jackiantonovich.bsky.social!

Got word today that I was promoted early to Associate Professor as of August 2024. I’m over the moon, humbled, and grateful. Next stop, tenure (that file goes in in August—the same rules that allowed me to stand for promotion early also prevented me from standing for tenure early)!

It has been a LOOOOONNNGG day making tweaks and changes and filling out forms, but FINALLY my fourth book, David Lynch: Sonic Style, is moving into the copyediting phase of production as we speak!

For those still on the “other place,” this buffoon is impersonating me. Can ya’ll please report him?

It’s my newest Blu-ray commentary, coming to a shelf near you soon! (I’m wondering how many of the other commentators threw in “just one more thing” 😂)

List of commentaries including one on the music of “The Conspirators.”

I’ve been so busy lately with different things in different parts of my life that I’m now irrationally excited for my yarn delivery this afternoon so I can take some time for myself and start a scarf I’ve been wanting to make for a while.

Someday I will learn that if I drink coffee past 2pm that I will not be able to shut my brain off at night. Clearly, I did not learn that lesson today.

For those who study film music, I’m curious: when seeing a new movie in the theater that you know you might need to see for research, do you read/watch what the composer says about the score before you go to the theater? (1/)

Made it here! Might as well tell a cute story: Mom has a watering bulb she puts in her plant outside. She’s been wondering why it goes empty so soon. Turns out a toad is living in it and using it as a giant drinking straw. It peeked his head & feet out of the drain holes today & popped back in.😆
