Thanks. If we do, I think we all know next season will likely be a bit grim, but we'll wholeheartedly embrace the opportunity to be thrashed by Leicester.

@danielstorey85.bsky.social As football is ruled by narrative, just a heads up about some narrative that us fans of Exeter City are now grasping on to. To stay up, we must beat Bradford at home next week and hope other games go our way. Arise Kev McDonald: plays for us and used to manage Bradford.

We've reached the nadir of scrutiny of VAR. That on-field review for the penalty award against Dunk was a total mess. The VAR only showed the ref a still image which made it look like an obvious handball, but the frame chosen wasn't the frame in which the ball hit Dunk. #WHUBHA #WestHam #Brighton

Great to see Tom Banton back playing for England. He scores lots of runs of the face of the bat, unlike his dad Pato Banton who was always bye bye bye bye bye bye, bye bye bye bye bye bye. Still, Pato did often help his teams recover when slightly behind—not a full reversal, just a baby comeback.

I'm in the same boat. I took a drop on Gabriel to delay choosing, but I'll prob bring in Saka and Arteta next week so will need to go elsewhere. I've got decent coverage through GW33, will FH 34 so am looking at 35+ and thinking another Forest def or Brentford. Sessignon looks interesting though.

It's difficult to know what to expect from Villa given how much their PL form has swung about after their CL games plus over the last 6 they have the worst xGC in the entire league. Digne has much better xData than Konsa but he is a known long term FPL troll. Do you have Arsenal defencive cover?

Muñoz is pretty unlikely to get a CS in either, so you are essentially comparing their attacking threat. Over the last 6 games, Muñoz has 0.16 xGI/90, 87.5 mins/game, and 6.83 points/90. Sarr has 0.84 xGI/90, 86.5 mins/game and 6.92 points/90. So Sarr looks clearly better.

"As with the resurgence of the far-right, the rise of tech oligarchs is the result of a long series of mainstream failures" A few thoughts on reactionary tech oligarchy by @jfarkas.bsky.social and I for @bylinetimes.bsky.social bylinetimes.com/2025/01/26/t...
Reactionary Tech is Reactionary Politics

The alliance between tech billionaires and far-right authoritarians should be a cause for grave democratic concern. Crucially, it being on full display since Trump’s inauguration should be a wakeup call for journalists, politicians, and scholars who have gone along with the portrayal of tech CEOs as mere ‘innovators’ and ‘entrepreneurs’ whose aims and actions are beyond or outside politics.

As with the resurgence of the far-right, the rise of tech oligarchs is the result of a long series of mainstream failures: from sycophantic media coverage of the endless stream of unfulfilled promises to tax policies (or a lack thereof) that have allowed tech CEOs to become so rich they can literally spend hundreds of millions influencing politics domestically and abroad. From antitrust policies (or a lack thereof) that have allowed tech giants to obtain near-monopoly status to media policies that for too long have ignored the internet and failed to fund public service alternatives to the tech giants that now threaten democracy.

The liberal rhetoric of saving democracy through fact-checking and media literacy was always a pipe dream. No amount of literacy training can counter the resurgence of oligarchic and authoritarian rule.

Auschwitz Memorial @auschwitzmemorial.bsky.social · 27/01/2025
Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.
A bird's-eye view of a former Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp showing a wide dirt pathway flanked by parallel rows of barbed-wire fences. Groups of visitors walk along the path, surrounded by the remnants of brick structures and barracks, now reduced to foundations. Green grass contrasts with the somber history of the site, as the path leads toward a guard tower in the distance.

I know there’s a lot right now. But folks need to understand what this means. A suspension this long would mean people living with HIV lose their medicine for months. People around the world lose their PrEP for months, putting millions at risk of getting HIV. Drug-resistant strains could emerge.

Without it, it seems pretty clear that Charlotte would have won and it seems likely that most people would have thought that deserved. They traded an ending that made sense for one that was hard to predict before the finale but felt completely disconnected from the rest of the game.

Right. Frankie was unlucky to choose Charlotte (although it was a likely pick)—once she did, it was clear neither of them could possibly survive.

reallyquitetired @reallyquitetired.bsky.social · 24/01/2025
In a format like #Traitors, where there is production interference throughout, the main thing you absolutely have to avoid is overshadowing the ending with a piece of production interference that over-determines the outcome. And that was exactly what happened. The result feels arbitrary. #TraitorsUK

I don't see any other plausible outcome than the players banishing both Frankie and Charlotte, a move that guarantees they remove a traitor. The only jeopardy left is whether the other three split it, or play on. #Traitors #TraitorsUK

reallyquitetired @reallyquitetired.bsky.social · 24/01/2025
This series of #TraitorsUK has been annoying because of the group's resolute commitment to making drama out of air and decisions based on pure vibes rather than any strategy. But the finale still would have been tense without the stupid Seer innovation, which will force a single outcome. #Traitors
