This also marks the first time Reform have not led in our tracker since April 2025. It is the lowest share of the vote for the Greens since October last year when Polanski became leader.

While other parties abandon environmentalism , Liberal Democrats remain committed to the fight. Our message is clear: if you care about protecting Britain’s nature, we’ll offer you a better deal than anyone else.
Quote from Tim Farron on a green grassy background which reads:

Liberal Democrats are leading the way to protect Britain’s nature and green spaces.

We have led the fight in Parliament to tackle the scandal of sewage being dumped in our lakes
and rivers, fought for
better protections for designated sites, and
we are the only party backing our farmers to be given the support they need to maintain our precious landscapes across the country.

35°C in May 🤯 It has never been this hot this early in the year, ever. The climate has changed and it's not going to go back to normal anytime soon. People are already dying in heatwaves across Europe, yet Reform are busy scrapping climate targets and pretending this crisis isn’t happening.

We won every seat on Richmond upon Thames Council last week. But that doesn’t mean we’ve changed our mind on electoral reform. It’s time the Government stopped defending a broken system out of self-interest and backed proportional representation.

The daft thing is that with Proportional Representation there'd be no need for this self-destructive war within Labour. It could split into its component parts - left and right - and people could vote for what they wanted. It's only First-Past-the-Post that forces these irreconcilables together.

Great post by Devon councillor @chulmleighed.bsky.social The only thing I'd quibble with is that I think the UK *is* currently in a disgraceful state. But I agree with Ed that our problems are not caused by people fleeing war. The cause is decades of governments pandering to vulture capitalists.
Facebook post (author redacted):

"Amazing how illegal immigrants get to stay at hotels and barracks and now being rehomed into our society and yet local homeless and those up and down the country including homeless ex military get no help..its disgraceful the state this country is in."

Response by Ed Tyldesley - County Councillor for Chulmleigh and Landkey:

"None of that is true."Facebook post by Ed Ed Tyldesley - County Councillor for Chulmleigh and Landkey:

I just saw a post on a Barnstaple Facebook group about asylum seekers. There's a lot of misinformation flying around about "illegal immigrants", I think it's important to fact-check every single piece of "fake news".

Here's my response:

"Illegal immigrants" - they are not illegal immigrants, they are asylum seekers. Seeking asylum is perfectly legal under UK and international law.

"Get to stay at hotels" - they do not get to stay in hotels, they are forcibly held in buildings that used to function as hotels. Hotels have cleaners, concierges, pools, and restaurants. These asylum seeker holding centres have none of these. Some ex-barracks have been repurposed to house asylum seekers whilst their asylum claims are being processed, but these are essentially prisons. They can't get jobs, earn money, pay tax, or enjoy life at all.

"Local homeless... get no help" - North Devon District Council alone spent £4million on temporary accommodation for homeless people between 2022-2024. They receive less and less money every year from central government yet continually increase their provision for homeless people. Facebook post by Ed Ed Tyldesley - County Councillor for Chulmleigh and Landkey:

"Ex-military get no help" - in 2023, the UK government allocated £11million to the Office for Veterans Affairs. In 2026 this has more than tripled to £37million and the OVA has announced huge amounts of funding towards veteran's healthcare, support centres, and specific housing projects.

"It's disgraceful the state this country is in" - this is completely untrue. Yes, there are lots of problems but not one of them is caused by desperate asylum seekers fleeing unimaginable horrors.

Our problems are caused by billionaires hoarding land and property, keeping wages low and the cost of living high. It suits them that we fight amongst ourselves and point fingers at equally impoverished people.

I am proud of this country, it is not in a disgraceful state.
