I'm old enough to remember when we called our poorly written code bugs, fixed them, and didn't attempt to shift blame onto the inanimate code for any problems we'd caused. The whole discourse around "rogue AI agents" is ridiculous.

Just wanna throw it out there that if this were true (it isn't) for anyone else, it wouldn't count for shit and you would still go to jail "Oh, I didn't actually do the *insert crime* because in the video evidence of me doing the *insert crime* I wasn't actually paying attention."

Counting down to when Farage resigns and calls a by-election to distract from multiple donation crimes Rather than the last time when he resigned and called a by-election to distract from multiple donation crimes

'Sometimes we refer to “in real life” to signal the opposite of “online” but it’s a false distinction. Human behaviour is now expressed in the material and virtual worlds. Both are real.'

Let me be clear. No politician rejects climate science on the basis of accuracy. They either publicly believe in it, or they publicly deny it because it will mean their friends lose some money in the short term.

Mamdani turned the whole of NYC's finances around and funded libraries, permanently, by actually listening to the people and doing it. So I guess this would be terrifying for rich people.

The University of Nottingham doing redundancies and cutting the arts was insulting because they lied about their finances and made stupid decisions. My former uni, Exeter, doing redundancies and cutting the arts is insulting because they are in profit and don't need to. Stop cutting the arts.

It might happen!

Following Nigel Farage’s decision to resign and trigger a by-election in Clacton, Liberal Democrat Leader, Ed Davey, said:

"If this by-election does go ahead now, we are calling on all parties to stand aside and refuse to give oxygen to Farage’s vanity project.

"But the Government should just say no to Farage’s ego-trip and block his resignation until the Standards Commissioner has finished investigating him.

"The people of Clacton should have all the facts before they cast their votes."

And the answer to the AI not doing it right was to keep trying again and again. And after it eventually happened, someone else made a point of congratulating them. Why are we endorsing tech that encourages screaming into a void until a half-assed result is produced.

I feel like I'm going insane, because I just overheard someone saying they were shouting at AI because it wasn't doing a fairly straightforward task and was doing something else and/or the actual request but badly/with extra stuff. Chat, the prompt was for something that takes 2 seconds on Canva.

If you make a game/film/anything with AI, I can only assume you just want to make some money and have nothing worth saying. I want to experience media made by human creativity and experience, that has things to say and emotions poured into it.

Y'know, with companies like Sony moving to digital only and subscription services, and the big developers increasingly showing interest in using AI to make games, the AAA bubble might burst (hopefully alongside AI).

Banning online spaces leaves teenagers with nowhere to go. It's always take, take, take. They took away youth centres and physical spaces, and now they want the online spaces too. For some people, they will find more risky ways to access content, for others, they will be left with nowhere to be.

If I'd been banned from the online spaces I used to socialise as a teenager, my life would have been radically and immeasurably worse. Banning social media is a pathetic alternative to regulating it. Tech companies collecting yet more private data to 'enforce' a ban will be fucking disastrous.

Even though it can feel silly to grieve over people we didn't personally know but whose art touched us, I would rather shed my tears and embrace the humanity of that than pretend I'm not sad about it.

AI is the fast food of art. The fast fashion of art. The quality is worse, you'll be satisfied for a few seconds, and we'll all be worse off for it.

Ben Gilbert @realbengilbert.bsky.social · 28/05/2026
When you say AI makes art more accessible, what you mean is that you can get something at the press of a button. That's not you creating art. Art is a process. The end result can be shit but that's not the point.

Ben Gilbert @realbengilbert.bsky.social · 28/05/2026
I feel sad whenever anyone says that AI makes art more accessible. Governments are actively reducing accessibility of art, only to then push for AI to do a worse job at it, whilst stealing from actual artists. All because billionaires want some fast cash.

'Developers, therefore, bear a particular ethical and spiritual responsibility, for every design choice reflects a vision of humanity.'
111. I wish to address a special appeal to those who develop artificial intelligence. In one sense, technological innovation can represent human participation in the divine act of creation. Developers, therefore, bear a particular ethical and spiritual responsibility, for every design choice reflects a vision of humanity. Just as the creator of an artistic or literary work must consider the values it conveys, so developers are called to embed values in their projects with due seriousness: with transparency, responsibility toward affected communities and careful attention to ensuring that what is being cultivated is a genuine good.
