After frustrating googling, turns out it was A Troll in Central Park. I did not describe that accurately at all 😂 But I reckon child-me would be terrified at that one too! Also Gollum. Gollum was horrific

it was clearly so traumatizing as a kid, I didn't even have to think twice 😂 there was also this creepy kids movie about a sort of gnome with a peculiar nose who granted wishes or some such which I also remember finding creepy as a child

An absolutely fantastic time at The Britannia Panopticon Music Hall's magic show! Many highlights to such a fun evening (saw a grown man swallow a whole balloon). The place has such amazing history and is as awesome as the people trying to save it. If you're in Glasgow, pls go check it out!

I started seeing less of them but perhaps it's just that I haven't looked in the right places in a while, haven't read much manga lately. Used to see them announced a lot in forums and blogs though! They were super fun and a great way to learn japanese too

I used to do this all the time with manga; they released drama cds specifically for this!

Happy book birthday to Dweller in Darkness, Sam Flynn's 2nd in Deadlights duology! Published by @timberghostpress.bsky.social, Flynn's play (pun intended) on Chambers' The King in Yellow takes new heights in this sequel, horrifying/aweing as it questions blind devotion, history and conquest.
A black e-reader sits angled on a soft, white fabric surface, displaying the book cover of "Dweller in Darkness" by Sam Flynn.

The cover on the screen is in grayscale and features five figures facing a misty, foggy and grassy field where a light shines in the distance. An image of an e-reader displaying a page. The title at the top reads "Dweller in Darkness by Sam Flynn". The main text on the screen includes the highlighted quote, "Those you worship taught you to look everywhere, everywhere but within."

So I dislike marketing and promo, but really, really love the books I get to work on. So I will be hyping up Heavy Are The Years, but today I want to talk about the limited edition chocolate bar collab with Open Book Chocolates and why it's so special to me: www.kickstarter.com/projects/bon...

That's what I felt too! Tbf, footnotes in fantasy novels have never been my cup of tea (they might work in veeery specific epistolary formats) for that very reason. It came to a point where so much worldbuilding was left out of the page in favor of being in the footnotes. I wonder why?

Arina @readingrogue.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
I would not say it's Witcher-style though, but comps like that are usually a pitfall, in my opinion. It's very much its own take on the monster-hunter story

And craft-wise I thought it was really good for a debut!

Arina @readingrogue.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
I enjoyed it! I can only point out 2 cons (more due to personal stylistic preferences): too much character/worldbuilding in footnotes and 1 too many awkward phallic/sexual references (suppose that's an horror thing and did fit the context). There was just something horrendously fascinating about it

Hey all, I had this cold war SF novel come out in July. It's about generational trauma, what we do for love, how secret government bureaus get set up in a world where the Cold War ended in 1975 because physics changed suddenly and without warning. I really love it and think you will too

An infographic for The Traitor & The Wretch (cover art by Amy Phillips) written by Jasmine Walls and illustrated by Rowan MacColl.

It reads: Minor villains dungeon-crawling their way to a happy ending.

On the run from an entire kingdom that wants them both dead.

This guy (the wretch) helped raise a Chaos God to bring about the end times (he's not coping well)

This guy (the traitor) tried to kill the Prophesized Hero (it ended badly)

Enemies-to-Lovers

Mutated cave creatures! Undead horrors! Endless pitch black caves! Somehow, it's a romance! An infographic showing the cover for This Mortal Coil, written by Jasmine Walls and illustrated by Marie Enger (cover art by Jan and Vlad Schwarts) that reads: What's a skeleton to do when they outlive their wizard overlord?

Go on a quest they are wildly unqualified for, apparently

This novella can fit so many illustration in it.

Evil wizards, corrupt kings, vengeful spirits, and one very tired skeleton.

Includes: a magic sword with a mid-life crisis.

No romance! We're not even sure they count as friends, honestly.

Small press means we are not beholden the same marketing schedules of big publishing behemoths, and we can ignore the "rules" about only marketing new books pre-publication. Any bloggers/reviewers curious about Bonedust Press books? We'll get them to you!

Reading The King in Yellow in preparation for The Mystery of the Pale King (Sam Flynn's inspired by), in preparation for Dweller in Darkness!
My hand holds up two books overlapping each other.

On the left is The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers, published by Pushkin Press. The cover features the yellow silhouette of a figure wearing a hooded robe against a black background.

On the right is The Mystery of the Pale King by Sam Flynn. The cover shows a moody, atmospheric illustration of figures on a ship, sailing toward a distant castle under a night sky filled with stars.
