My preorder of @ajwestauthor.bsky.social 's The Inheritance of Everest Macdonald, from @bertsbooks.bsky.social came wrapped like this (inside its careful packaging) and wow!

I use it for my reading journal, i.e. (picture). But I've seen people use it to decorate furniture, like lamps and such
A 8x8 inch square reading journal, open to show two pages. On the right there is a map central to the page, with several fictional SFF locations from books. On the right, a guidepost with wooden boards with those same locations (on the back there are goals). The pages are decorated with washi tape featuring imagery relating to mapmaking (maps, compass). It is also decorated with dnd-like stickers portraying a treasure chest, a backpack, a compass and an archer's quiver and arrows.

An absolutely fantastic time at The Britannia Panopticon Music Hall's magic show! Many highlights to such a fun evening (saw a grown man swallow a whole balloon). The place has such amazing history and is as awesome as the people trying to save it. If you're in Glasgow, pls go check it out!

Happy book birthday to Dweller in Darkness, Sam Flynn's 2nd in Deadlights duology! Published by @timberghostpress.bsky.social, Flynn's play (pun intended) on Chambers' The King in Yellow takes new heights in this sequel, horrifying/aweing as it questions blind devotion, history and conquest.
A black e-reader sits angled on a soft, white fabric surface, displaying the book cover of "Dweller in Darkness" by Sam Flynn.

The cover on the screen is in grayscale and features five figures facing a misty, foggy and grassy field where a light shines in the distance. An image of an e-reader displaying a page. The title at the top reads "Dweller in Darkness by Sam Flynn". The main text on the screen includes the highlighted quote, "Those you worship taught you to look everywhere, everywhere but within."

Reading The King in Yellow in preparation for The Mystery of the Pale King (Sam Flynn's inspired by), in preparation for Dweller in Darkness!
My hand holds up two books overlapping each other.

On the left is The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers, published by Pushkin Press. The cover features the yellow silhouette of a figure wearing a hooded robe against a black background.

On the right is The Mystery of the Pale King by Sam Flynn. The cover shows a moody, atmospheric illustration of figures on a ship, sailing toward a distant castle under a night sky filled with stars.

Had a lovely time at Waterstones Sauchiehall yesterday with the lovelies Hannah Kaner and Kirsty Logan! Loved hearing about A Snake Among Swans, Hannah's grimdark feminist retelling of The Wild Swans. Thanks to the authors and Waterstones for making my first author event a delight!

My sister got into TBB's S&F sub and holy hell. Did not know the artist before, but I am obsessed with John Barry Ballaran's artwork for The Demon Star
Naked hardback for The Broken Binding's special edition of Jesse Aragon's novel, The Demon Star.

A lone figure stands in the center with their back to the viewer, wearing dark, tattered clothing and carrying a sheath at their waist. They have a leg brace. They are walking into a surreal, fiery red landscape. Surrounding them in the upper and right portions of the cover are dozens of shadowy, black, ghostly figures with glowing red eyes. In the bottom right corner, a skeleton rests on the ground next to a strange, blooming thing with long tentacles reaching for it.An open book featuring a two-page fantasy illustration with dramatic, dark and crimson lighting.

On the left, a tall, imposing figure with long white hair, and prominent pointed ears stands confidently. They wear an ornate, dark coat illuminated by a vibrant, reddish-pink and purple overhead light source. Behind them is a large, circular metallic structure resembling a hatch or vault door.

On the right there is a crowd of onlookers staring upward in awe or anticipation or suspicion. Above them stands a large stone statue pointing upward, all bathed in the same moody, atmospheric crimson lighting. An open book displays a two-page science fiction illustration.

On the left, a person with long, wavy red hair wearing light-colored clothes stands with their back to the viewer.

They have one hand pressed against a dark, reflective window, through which one can see deep space and a planet, or perhaps a moon, tinted in a dark orange light.

Next to them a tall, pale, bald humanoid figure with blue-tinted skin, stands slightly bowed, hands behind their back.

Good Sunday to you, Womble! I'm reading I'll Watch Your Baby by Neena Viel. Unsettling, creepy horror with Southern gothic vibes and unapologetically messy Black women. Based on the story of Linda Taylor
An ereader displaying the book cover of "I'll Watch Your Baby" by Neena Viel. It depicts a Black woman with a large afro. Her eyes peer out from behind the bold, white title text that fills the top half of the cover. In the lower portion of the woman's silhouette, there's an illustration of a large, Southern-style plantation house with prominent columns, surrounded by trees. The author's name, Neena Viel, is written in large white letters at the bottom.

Today on new additions to the adventure of reading: the new edition of Mexican Gothic with its pulpish cover (love it. Couldn't help myself). And Consider Phlebas, the start of my Culture journey, to better understand the influences behind Stewart Hotston's Project Hanuman
An image of the book cover for "Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. The cover features a vintage, pulpish horror aesthetic in shades of deep red and teal. A woman with dark, 1950s-style hair and a worried expression holds a lit lantern. She is bathed in a ghostly teal light that contrasts with the saturated red background. Below her, a several eerie mushrooms surround her.A paperback titled "Consider Phlebas" by Iain M. Banks lies on a patterned surface. The cover art features a stylized, retro-sci-fi aesthetic with a winding blue pathway leading toward a distant horizon under a dark, starry sky. Geometric white lines and a large circular celestial body create a sense of depth and scale. The author's name is prominently displayed in large, bold, white sans-serif lettering across the center.

After an incensed interaction (not, they called me within 5m and immediately solved my problem) with customer service, and a late preorder, I finally got this in my hands
The cover of "Sublimation" by Isabel J. Kim. The title is written in large, vertical sans-serif letters on the right side against a dark background. On the left, against a teal backdrop, is a surreal image of a person’s face and neck repeated and layered vertically, creating a cascading effect. The woman has dark hair and vibrant red lipstick.

*shakes my fist at paperback releases* I have to wait until 2027 to read that one! Meanwhile, I'm enjoying The Carnival of Ash by Tom Beckerlegge. A young poet (who is as dramatic and fun as you expect one to be) returns to his home city (fascinatingly built around literature) looking for renown.
Book jacket for the hardcover of The Carnival of Ash by Tom Beckerlegge. The top of the cover features the tagline, "Welcome to the City of Words..." set against a dark, starry sky. The title is written on vibrant, ribbon-like banners of teal, cream, and red that sweep across the center. Below the title is a detailed silhouette of a Italian-style city skyline with domes and towers under a dim light.

Finished The Tale of the Hidden Village by K.C. Norton and Riley Rookhouse, a fun fantasy take on the Sherlockian detective duo, which plays with a lot: identity, consciousness, gender-fluidity, acceptance, self-image, and what it really means to be alive and feeling, in really interesting ways!
Book cover for The Tale of the Hidden Village, written by K.C. Norton and Riley Rookhouse, featuring a red-haired woman in a crimson and gold dress standing confidently in the foreground. Behind her towers a large, somber-looking orc-like man wearing a heavy dark cloak. Had never heard of Lymond but just added it to the tbr as I plan to read Tales of Isyr this year. It would be so interesting to delve deeper into each author's work and find the hows/whys of those divergent results, if that's even possible!
Two paperback fantasy books of the "Tales of Isyr." series by C.M. Debell are placed side-by-side.

The book on the left, titled "The Many Shades of Midnight," features cover art of a lone figure standing on a rocky cliff holding a glowing blue sword, overlooking a vast, misty landscape under a large moon.

The book on the right, titled "In Midnight's Shadow: A Short Story Collection," shows two figures scaling the ornate, dark stone walls of a gothic-style castle.
