Beneath our feet, peatlands are doing extraordinary things. 🌍 Bogs, fens & marshes lock away carbon and support unique wildlife like these species here. But peat extraction destroys this balance, and the wildlife too.

Turf Vrij’s (Peat Free’s) aim’s to halt use of peat in Dutch horticulture. It’s deeply frustrating to learn this pressure group decided, reluctantly, to leave a voluntary agreement involving industry and government. Info here: www.linkedin.com/posts/turfvr... Roll on, grassroots pressure!

This bog asphodel plant is tucked into a damp, sheltered area behind a coir log, which was previously bare #peat 😍 It's the only one at the moment, but the cottongrass and sphagnum are spreading and creating conditions suitable for other bog species to become established 😊🌿
