Opus 5.5 brings improved writing. Great! We might just be able to go back to reading articles from Callstack, Software Mansion, Margelo, and every other React Native software house who been constantly pushing AI slop writing for the last 12 months.

cursor is not in bsky, so I'm gonna shout at the invisible: why the heck do they need to fetch my stripe profile every 3-5 seconds? meh
a proxy tool showing cursor over-fetching from `/auth/full_stripe_profile` every 2-5 seconds

Now that I have a real job (oh yeah, I got a job) I have to pay more attention to LinkedIn. I hate it. It is just creepy. Everyone is so toxically positive and upbeat. So fake. I can confidently say that it is the worst address book ever.

House sale incoming, which means funds for the homestead starter kit! Spent the day looking up trucks, camera gear, planning tasks, and learning a bit more about floor framing. More fun than programming.

And may I say: no mechanic would dare tell their peers "this job was never about fixing cars".

Anyone saying "software engineering was never about writing code" is kidding themselves. A mere attempt at appearing stoic in the face of a complete shitshow that already affected many other industries. It's called hindsight bias and you're not smarter for saying it.

the best thing to come out of the AI era is (some) humans realising how unsustainable making a single burger patty is.

Biggest items: font scaling, orientation support, live regions, proper focus when modals/popups are open, contrast ratios, text version of non-text content. To name a few.

How: Asked Claude for a comprehensive analysis of my codebase and a list of things I need to address. The list it produced was 90% usable. The rest is gonna be found through elbow grease and devouring the specs.

After these optimisations, our tests went from ~10 minutes down to ~3 minutes!

- Using a larger runner (duh, obvious). - Installing the latest version of `emulator`, inside the `after_checkout` hook - Disabling all animations - Using `-gpu lavapipe`. No idea what lavapipe is but this helps a lot! - Using an `aosp_atd` image rather than `default` - Bump memory to 4GB

Just following the Expo article wasn't enough: I was still facing extreme lag in our Android tests. After chatting with Expo folk in their Discord, here's my optimised `maestro` EAS Workflow.

I just optimised the heck out of my company's Maestro E2E tests with EAS workflows. I used a mix of repacking & a few other undocumented optimisations to Android Emulators. Here's what I've done. #expo #reactnative

Accelerating continuous integration with Fingerprint, Repack in EAS Workflows
Cut CI build times by up to 78% with Expo’s Fingerprint + Repack workflow. Skip native builds and ship faster with smarter automation.

when is someone gonna tell facebook the marketplace app is absolute garbage performance-wise? M4 max, 64gb. Trying to type a message to a seller, characters take 3 seconds to be computed & reflected into the UI. #fb #react @react.dev

@expo.dev can't find where to report bugs with EAS. Enabling verbose logs in EAS crashes during yarn installation (yarn v4). expo.dev/accounts/one...

I'm happy that we live in times where we can learn skills at the comfort of our home instead of having to sit in austerity, limited to our teacher's breadth of knowledge.

like most inventions, it's an incredible aid if you use it as a crutch rather than a replacement for one's own critical thinking. The trend, however, is leaning towards the latter.

the consensus amongst me and other peers is that the "craft" is dead. I feel disconnected from code and my passion is for the industry is at an all time low. Thinking of an exit plan, maybe a second sabbatical. Who knows.
