In general, stories based on the Inquisition are a better view into the societies of the 41st millenium. Some of them feel like detective stories. Stories starring the “xenos” factions can be tons of fun. Brutal Kunnin’ and Voidscarred, by @mikebrooks668.bsky.social , are lotsa fun.

For playing? It’s really just the rules, which you can get for free, and then an army codex plus the app. For the “lore”, there are tons of novels being released all the time, although some are better than others. A lot of stories involving Space Marines can be less relatable and interesting.

If you mix the Tolkien Legendarium, Dune, Foundation, Starship Troopers, the multiverse of Michael Moorcock, the Alien series, Terminator, Mad Max, and 2000AD (especially Judge Dredd), with religious & medieval imagery, gothic architecture, heavy metal, and punk’s satire of power, you get 40k.

There are different Warhammer universes (The Old World, Age of Sigmar, The Horus Heresy (or 30k), and Warhammer 40,000). The mini above is from 40k. It’s a miniatures wargame (with tons of other media) set in our galaxy, in the 41st millenium. Most of the galaxy is ruled by the Imperium of Man.

Not really. The big updates to the RE Engine are all about inserting AI tools into it. I read up on the presentation and what they’re planning to do. It’s too much AI for me to support the company.

Stuff like RE:Flows is gonna be a suite of tools to rapidly implement ideas of game mechanics into standard code (i.e. vibe coding). There will be another tool to automate creation and animation of large groups of models. Etc. etc. They call it an “Engine for the AI Generation”. Because it’s AI.
