The world dedicates a Poland-sized area of land to producing liquid biofuels such as bioethanol & biodiesel. Is there a more efficient way to generate energy? Putting solar panels on the land used for biofuels, e.g., would produce enough electricity for all cars and trucks worldwide to go electric.
How much energy can be produced on global land currently used for liquid biofuels?

Bar comparison showing energy per year from land currently used for liquid biofuels: Biofuels for transport — 1,400 TWh per year; Solar panels on the same land — 32,000 TWh per year. Side annotations: 31,000 TWh shown for context as the amount of electricity the world generated in 2024; 7,000 TWh per year shown as the amount of electricity the world would need to power all of its cars and trucks if they were electric.

Note: This assumes the world uses 32 million hectares of land to grow crops for liquid biofuels, based on net land use which subtracts land allocated to co-products such as animal feed, and assumes solar PV uses 1 hectare of land per GWh.

Data from BNEF on Sizewell C shows electricity costs could hit £286/MWh, making it much more expensive than other technologies. While it helps decarbonise, this price tag raises major questions about cost-effectiveness. Is nuclear too expensive to be a key part of the UK's energy solution?

Myth: EVs won't cut urban air pollution because they're heavy! New report: Brake wear is the top source of non-exhaust emissions and EVs cut it by 83%! While EVs cause ~20% more tyre wear, only 1-5% becomes airborne vs. 40%+ from brakes. www.eiturbanmobility.eu/knowledge-hu...

Study on non-exhaust emissions (NEE) in road transport - EIT Urban Mobility
Why this study matters More than 96% of the European population was exposed to PM2.5 concentrations exceeding the World Health Organization’s annual air quality guideline limit in 2022 .Road transport is a primary source of particulate matter in urban areas.  As exhaust emissions decrease, non-exhaust emissions (NEEs) – particles from brake, tyre and road wear […]

EU agrees to increase flight delay times before passengers get compensation
Travellers on short-haul flights would have to be delayed by four hours or more to get payout under new plan * Business live – latest updates EU countries have agreed to increase the amount of time aircraft passengers are delayed before they can qualify for compensation. Passengers on short-haul flights would have to be delayed by four hours or more before they could claim compensation, under the plans. For long-haul flights delays would have to be six or more hours. Nuclear power plants generally cost 102.5% more on average to build than estimated. Hydrogen, CCS, and thermal power plants that rely on methane gas are also higher-risk infrastructure projects. Solar, by contrast, is often completed ahead of schedule and for less than expected.

Ontario greenlit construction of what will be the first small modular reactors to be completed in North America. The first of four 300 MW GE-Hitachi BWRX reactors should be finished by 2029, but at a cost of >US$18/W for Unit #1 falling to ~US$9.6/W for #4. www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art... 🔌💡

And still there's people claiming that describing Trump's ideology as more fascist than democratic say it's hyperbole. Please wake up. Once you accept that a ruler can declare protests he doesn't like illegal you are a giant step further along the road to fascism.
