A disease suppression strategy in action: The impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions in the COVID-19 pandemic in Denmark
When a new respiratory virus emerges, the only control options are non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) until a vaccine or an effective treatment becomes available. An early analysis of NPIs conclu...

Thanks @martinlercher.bsky.social of @hhu.de for holding the first keynote of #DGEpi2025! Speaking about cultivating creativity in science was a great way to get the ball rolling for the rest of the conference and provoke discussion from the start! @uni-muenster.de #EpiSky #IDSky

Last week I had the great pleasure of presenting my work on historical epidemiology and mortality in 19th century Denmark at the conference organized by the PandemiX Center. Absolutely amazing to be able to present at the beautiful setting of The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters!
Picture of Rasmus Pedersen giving a presentation. A slide from the presentation can be seen, showing dots representing different epidemics of 19th century Denmark and the results of clustering. Text on the slide states that the highlighted mortality crises appear to be related to pandemic influenza, while a bar graph shows an age-distribution.

Here's a quick recap of day 1 of the #MONID2025 conference yesterday. The day was filled with talks, elevator pitches, poster tours, and a highly entertaining science slam followed by a lovely get-together.

Reading the news can be a bit depressing these days, so I appreciate Danish news broadcaster DR reporting some important breaking news from the world of mathematics: "100,980,000,000 is a wild number" 😄
Screenshot with the Danish text "Korrespondent: 100.980.000.000 er et vildt tal" [Translation: "Correspondent: 100.980.000.000 is a wild number"]
