I guess I'm getting old when I wonder about a favorite band releasing a new album and realize they died of old age.

Can’t have the snare and hi-hat hitting at the same time on a Stones album not having it

Here's something rather interesting from the 16 October 1976 issue of Melody Maker, a small ad for a gig by Bill Fay and the Acme Quartet. This was the band he would make the excellent Tomorrow, Tomorrow And Tomorrow album with in the late '70s, which would remain unreleased until 2005. 1/2

Lovely collection of Bill Fay’s early rarities that so deserved this reissue.

I was excited about the first disc of the seven unreleased Springsteen albums just released… but it’s 2 & 3 that I am totally enamored with.

Today on BlueSky I’ve learned Prince and Paddy McAloon were born on the same day, one year apart.

Both Bill Fay and Nick Garrie showed up to sessions for their first albums and were horrified to find full orchestras. Both artists were forever disappointed with the over-production. Some of Nick Garrie’s most beautiful songs were made peppy and grand when they could have been stark and emotional.

There’s a new album by @themayfliesusa.bsky.social 23 years after the last one 🙌. Perfect American powerpop.

this album is brilliant and beautiful, sounds new every time I put it on. Gerry Leonard is an unheralded master.

Clem was the shit, I’m shocked. What a hard year already for brilliance and greatness.

I’m stuck in England, which tbh, is fine with me. Flight cancelled because Heathrow is on fire, then went to Dishoom in Shoreditch where they couldn’t seat anyone because fire alarms shut their kitchen. Off to buy more cassettes. 🪄
