I got my copy of Ookla the Mok's Vs Evil on CD today! @randookla.bsky.social was super cool about shipping, and was spot on for timing, even though Bandcamp said I wouldn't get it till next Wednesday! Seriously check this band out if you love comics, Trek, pop culture, or all three!

My new copy of Ookla the Mok's "Vs Evil" on a handy dandy compact disc. Mwahaha!

Damnit Warren, your options were to make amends and re-enter the culture or ignore SMoU and stay away. Not making amends and not staying away wasn’t on the menu. You had such a clear path to reconciliation.

I’m not sure what it is — the writing or maybe the editing — but I’m really enjoying the NFL this season.

Dear news media, Why not spend a few minutes today explaining how the process of going to war is supposed to work in a constitutional democracy? Because it ain't this.

I watched it a few years back, so can’t speak to specifics, but I remember absolutely loving the final episode. I would enjoy hearing more from you about this, and maybe discussing it with you after I rewatch. Hope you’re doing well.

Today is Bandcamp Friday, the perfect day to get a copy of the two EPs I released this year, Ookla the Mok’s Folk Song Army Men (from August) and Via Bella’s The Hope EP (from November). There is a link to Via Bella’s Bandcamp page (as well as my and Adam English’s solo pages) from the Ookla page.

Buffalo’s own Ookla the Mok has a song about The Wrecking Crew. Was happily surprised to see lines from the song used in the Wrecking Crew Heroclix cards.

You know how there are several reasons why the Roman Empire fell, but centuries later we weirdly focus on the lead pipes, to the exclusion of the more obvious and overtly evil stuff? This is a post about journalism. [5/5]

This means that nurses, physical assistants, physical therapists, speech language pathologists, educators, social workers, and more will have their federal student loans capped at $20.5K ($50K for "professional). And I can't find a list of those occupations outside of a meme. [4/5]

Newsweek FTW: "The department determined that the following programs were professional: medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, optometry, law, veterinary medicine, osteopathic medicine, podiatry, chiropractic, theology and clinical psychology." [3/5] <-- I miscounted the men

I just spent a stupid amount of time looking for a list of the 11 programs. So many pieces (many by academic associations) didn't list them. I even found one with the headline "What are the 11 professional categories recognized by the U.S. Department of Education?" that didn't list them! [2/3]

As you may have heard, starting June 2026, only 11 academic programs that will be classified as "professional" (as opposed to "graduate") starting June 2026. This distinction affects student loans and will likely decimate the newly non-professional programs. [1/3]

I am a fan of Jason Aaron, so will give this a look, and not just because of the Ookla connection. (We did get Steve Gerber’s blessing to use the name, by the way. He was amused that “You’ve lasted longer than my character did.”)

Rick Veitch says this is really happening. (DC will finally publish the cancelled issue of Swamp Thing that prematurely ended Veitch’s run.)

New cover to Swamp Thing 88, which should have been published in 1989, and will be published soon: Swamp Thing holds a lamb in his arms, his eyes closed in serenity.

Johnny is fire and thus a hothead. Reed is water and thus cool headed. Sue (Johnny’s sister and Reed’s husband) is attracted to Namor, who is hotheaded water. Also of note: the Golden Age Human Torch was an android, so by pitting him against Namor, you had Cool Fire vs. Hot Water. #FantasticFour

OTD in 1998, @allredmd.bsky.social and Bernie Mireault (RIP) teamed up to tell a great story featuring their greatest individual creations in the second (and final) issue of Madman Jam. It seems like not calling this the "The Madman Jam Jam" was a missed opportunity.
