That is not how things work.
A screenshot from Aust Post saying the item is coming today (Weds)... but the arrival details are for Friday.

😑 Anyone want to put bets on whether it's going back to Sydney today, given it's at Melbourne Airport? (Note: this item is not intended for NSW.)
A scheershot from Australia Post showing an item going from NSW to two places in Vic and then back to two places in NSW. And finally back to Melbourne.

A gift to myself: Sourdough micro fiction from @angelaslatter.bsky.social with art by @tanaudel.bsky.social. Feeling smug right now.
Part of a very short story by Angela Slatter with small marginalia by Kathleen Jennings. There’s vines and leaves and a nun teaching mice to sing.

And after the Coode St podcast, I went out for lunch, via the library and the bookshop… One I’ve wanted to read for months, one I learned about today, one I read weeks ago.
The spines of three books. Nonesuch, by Francis Spufford, Department of the Vanishing by Johanna Bell, and Notes from a Regicide by Isaac Fellman

60 pages in and I am completely intrigued.
Cover of Bird Deity by John Morrissey. It’s a white silhouette of a bird, beak to the top of the page.

@mondyboy74.bsky.social is absolutely correct to rave about this.
Cover of the book There is No Anti Memetics Division by qntm. There’s a Sun setting the ocean in the background, and a four-eyed deer in the foreground

I am so pleased to have this in my house.
Book called Yet She Lives. The cover is mostly brown, with a Viking - ish helmet, and what might be hair or flames streaming from it. It’s by Lisa Hannett.

The perfect book for Christmas.
The cover of a book called Die Hard. By Jon Lewis. There’s a man in silhouette wearing a white singlet, with read and blue shapes behind him.

When you see these books together, you get a pretty good sense of me as a reader and, frankly, as a person.

It’s not going to be easy reading but I expect it to be gripping.
Cover of the book Black Convicts by Santilla Chingaipe. It’s black with white writing for the author, title, and a blurb quote. The shape of Australia is picked out in the names of some of the black convicts.

Today I went to the VCHA ceremony expecting to receive a certificate for being on the shortlist for the Oral History category, and then applaud the winner of the category along with all the other winners. And then it was announced that the winner of the Oral History category was me...
A certificate saying that the podcast Women, Conscription, War by me was the winner of the Oral History Award at the Victorian Community History Awards

TEA LEAVES in super up-close details. I adore things like this.
Tea leaves under an electron microscope. Black and white image, completely freaky edges and whorls.

Watched GBBO with my mum. I am not stupid enough to think I could do most of what they do. But they literally had a plaiting demo for the wreath bread and most got it wrong. So I wanted to try it out… of course it wasn’t there time pressure, but still.

Something else I am is on the board of the Living Peace Museum. I helped create the WW1 anti-conscription heritage walk for Melbourne (www.livingpeacemuseum.org.au/s/alpm/page/...). We're launching it in two weeks! In person and via Zoom!

Clearly @catsparx.bsky.social should visit Aberdeen - there’s a lot of monumental street art.

Pretty happy to be reading a review copy of this. Although she states that most people are related to either Khufu or the workers who built the Giza pyramid, and I can’t find anything to substantiate that. (50% British men related to Tutankhamen, though, yes)
Picture of a book, The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, by Bettany Hughes. It features a pyramid with its reflection, either orange, gold, green and blue sections.
