Ms. Cillia Ardyna Mangroo, Ambassador of the Republic of Seychelles to UN Geneva, paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary General. Discussions focused on preparations for the celebration of World Wetlands Day 2027 in Seychelles, where the Secretary General will participate in the global observance.

Today, the Secretary General welcomed Ms. Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, for an official courtesy visit. The visit included a guided tour of the gardens at the IUCN Conservation Centre, followed by a brief presentation on the work of the Convention.

At #STRP29, the Secretary General had a bilateral meeting with Mr Edward Samuriwo, Director of Environment at the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife. As the #COP15 Presidency, Zimbabwe plays an important role in supporting the implementation of the decisions agreed at the #WetlandsCOP15.

The Convention on Wetlands has signed a new agreement with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency to broaden access to Earth Observation satellite data to enhance wetlands protection. The partnership addresses a key gap: access to reliable data to track wetland change & support informed decisions.

🌍Finding a good stopover really is a matter of survival for migratory birds. Some journeys cover thousands of kilometres and birds can’t simply fly the whole distance without stopping. 🦆Along the way, they need wetlands and other suitable habitats where they can rest, drink and refuel.
