Saw this meme and I did it. Opening line to Neuromancer.

Centered text reads “The sky above
the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel”

Below are 3 versions of the same cityscape labeled 1985, 2005, 2025 with the background changing from grey static, to solid blue, to streaming service logos.

Phones weren't always palantirs perverted by the empires of evil. Once upon a time they looked a little bit like Starfleet communicators. That era lingered in Japan until now, but it's finally over - farewell to the flip phone. www.japantimes.co.jp/life/2026/03...

I remember when Epic was Epic Megagames and it was just so neat that it was a genuine innovator in game development. Their shareware titles were befitting of the name, providing console-like experiences for practically nothing when the PC was more of a business tool and less a gaming device.

Watch of the Day: the Casio AE1200. Between this and yesterday's AE1200, you don't really need another watch. Five time zones, five alarms, stopwatch, timer, analog and digital time topped off with a sweet world map. It's nicknamed for James Bond for a reason.

Watch of the Day and it's a doozy - an Invicta ProDiver 0070. It's big. It's bulky. It was given to me by my mother in law for my 40th and I try not to overthink the subtext of choosing this. Nonetheless, it's my Lucky Watch. When I know tough times are ahead, this is what I wear.

The bulky Invicta Prodiver quartz chronograph. Ridiculous size, yet actually a decent timekeeper and it's done well for me when I've been under observation.

I got a Skmei step counter. Skmei's movements are quite flippity-floppity with timekeeping compared to Casio, but they're arguably the most affordable working watch brand. Casio is still way better from a craft pov though.

Skmei 1888 watch on timer mode. Also does stepcounting, alarms and all the usual watch tomfoolery. Just with a cute continually animated screen.

So decided, on a whim, to revisit Ryosuke Takahashi's under-appreciated 2006 anime FLAG. Like most Takahashi shows, it's leans on hard-science aesthetics and lands it here. The story of a clandestine UN military operation within a politically charged conflicted region sadly feels too relevant now.
