Lovely selection but must admit heart sank a little when I saw the Nov. moth and looked at the calendar. "Soon be Christmas " &c. &c.

Moths were scarce in my Quantock mire traps after a night of wind and rain. But it was great to see Neglected Rustic, declining in Somerset, and my second in a month at this site. Quite different colour pattern this time, more pale and pinker, perhaps more "neglecta" the southern subtype. #teammoth

Closest I've come to joining the Pink Vestal club but one wing left by our pesky hornets was just sad. Garden year tick of Delicate and a first pristine Sallow raised the spirits. Best Micros : a well-marked quercana and a likely Vetch moth A. anthylidella but dissection required. VC5. #teammoth

Heathland mothing with the low voltage LED trap in deepest Somerset VC5 Saturday night. Heath Rustic and Hedge Rustic the most photogenic, and a couple of interesting micros await further assessment. #teammoth
Heath Rustic a largely pink (heather-toned) moth with zigzag black and white markings photographed on a buff cardboard background. Hedge Rustic is dark, almost black but with a bluish sheen and some light coloured lines; here on Quantock sandstone.Teleiopsis diffinis? A poorly marked tiny buff moth in a glass tubeAgonopterix nervosa? The name suggests sinews which aptly describes the ridges on this pale buff moth on a white surface

Turns out (after dissection) this was Celypha woodiana/mistletoe marble, an unusual finding for Somerset and especially rare west of the Somerset levels and moors. #teammoth

On a so-called "quiet" day at @spurnbirdobs.bsky.social Harry Appleyard (Asst Warden) guided us round a Triangle tour that saw and/or heard some superb birds and more. Barred warbler (heard) joined Caspian gull, Pied flycatcher, Whinchat, flyover Osprey not to mention Willow emerald damselfly (✔️).

Commiserations, but things can always be worse : at the height of a "hornet issue" a couple of summers back I had more hornets than moths one night (>50). And stopped trapping for a while...

Bit stuck with this pale tortrix from a nearby garden (VC5) last night : Apotomis I think but while the dense key-like marking seems nearest to turbidana it's only 8mm long and that doesn't fit. If may be a bit worn : @mothiduk.bsky.social please could you and #teammoth ers come to my aid?

Afraid not seen by me again, Jesika555. Do you post on another platform which then shares across to Bluesky - a suggestion from Google AI when I described the issue? Bluesky response was that it might be my phone and try another device but no difference using this laptop. Will try via the website.🤔

2 purple hairstreaks fluttering around my pond yesterday (✔️👌🏻). Later one found stuck to the water surface. Rescued with the gardening knife then we communed together for 10 minutes as she dried out in the sunshine. Then onto my new oak tree to complete the rehab. (and maybe lay an egg or two 😁).

Celebrating 20yrs Rat free this year! One of the biggest successes on the island is the seabirds, but for Manx Shearwaters it has been phenomenal. One of our box birds from today, the fact we have 15,000 and they breed successfully was unthinkable 30yrs ago!
