Finding out that old time/golden age stars are still around shocks me nearly as much as younger ones dying. I was really taken aback to learn that Vikki Dougan, a top-10 all time baddie, is still living at 97.

“Plans to help the working class”

Stupid Kamala Harris post about debt forgiveness for Pell grant recipients who start a business and operate for 3 years in a disadvantaged community.

This is from the fist time nobody wanted her to be president; by the way

OK, this is even funnier than the right-wing discourse about Morello/RATM.

Liberals doing the right-wing thing and being shocked Tom Morello/RATM isn't one of them is hilarious.

The cope from some Man City fans is that the sham sponsorship income meant the club overstated revenue and so overpaid corporation tax. So they are due a refund! Awesome! Um, no. City paid *zero* corporation tax because they lost buckets of money. The receipts:

Obviously, she looks incredible and the camera loves her. What's very uncomfortable to me, but what Hepburn handles grace, is the questions about her life under German occupation. www.reddit.com/r/classicfil...

Making full use of my Gemini subscription. 🫤 fwiw, I decided not to buy corduroys, because where the fuck would I even wear them over here? I have jeans in relatively high-end Japanese denim, which I barely wear, tbh.

I probably should also reread What We Talk About When We Talk About Love, which I first read as a young person. I only bought because I though the title sounded like a song by The Smiths. Obviously I loved it, and it had something of a formative effect on me.

I've just finished a quite good, but towards the end, something of a slog, grimdark trilogy. In a very on brand move, it appears my desire for something wildly different has led me to lining up the most familiar of milieus. That is, the relatable angst of those of a certain age & social class.

I had a mate from school who was obsessed with this when it came out. Hadn't seen him for months, finally got around to visiting him in his Oxford college, and I had to hang around in his room for hours listening to it on repeat. 🫤

As opposed to what it is, which an unromanticised and emotionally devastating ending to what appeared to be an unusually good, slightly edgier, 80s teen movie.

Had a think about this last night, & took a closer look at some of the comments in the synthwave YouTube video that used footage from the film. Unsurprisingly, given our current gender politics, it does seem the ending is being interpreted by some from an anti-female incel perspective.
