One of the cruddiest things about the fact that Tapas is shutting down is that READERS need to be trained again to seek works on websites. We can talk about making your own website (it IS important) but we should also strategise ways for folks to own their work AND be able to share it

There's a reason us olds always say to have your own webcomic site and only mirror on hosting sites for extra reach. But I really feel for people whose comics found their audience, or their income, on Tapas. You don't get to choose where your work resonates. Fewer options=bad. Webtoon monopoly=bad.

LRT- im going to keep watch on what happens, but very likely they will not support the indie publishing feature after the merge. I want to save everyone’s comments on my comics before the worst happens…

Hey fellow webcomickers and readers! Did you know that my peers and I have been working on cataloguing all of the webcomics from ALL over the web in one spot for you to check out? You should submit your comic if you haven't, or find a new comic to read! webcomictravelogue.com

a screen shot of the website 'the webcomic travelogue' that features a comic in a banner, a big button to submit your comic, and recently updated comics in a row

Ugh…so I launched coLouR* this month because I thought I wouldn’t be that busy and would have time to prep chapter 1-2…but of course my day job has shoved a truckload of work on me last minute 🤡

I feel like "delayed gratification" is not a skill brought up enough in the context of getting better at writing/storytelling. Especially for creators who are trying to develop their OCs into an actual tangible project

So, we need to talk about webtoons(the company) has done to webcomics Over the past 7 or so years, we've seen this absolute shift in expectation, migration, and stagnation in the webcomics sphere which applies to style, sustainability, and the platforms grip on readers and creators

IF there is no option to opt out of this auto-translation, I will srsly stop posting coLouR* on WT. I am strictly no-AI on the comic and all translations are done by people. This would destroy a whole aspect of what makes coLouR* what it is.

Btw my state has been forcing the age verification on this app…for now Im still able to access it through my phone or use deer social…but idk for how much longer. So if I suddenly go silent here, then Ill likely have fallen back to insta, tumblr, or my WT creator profile 🙃

If anyone is getting smacked with this - just use deer.social or another alternate client. Bsky is just an AT Protocol Client, and your Bsky account is an AT Protocol account - you can use your same Bsky account thru another AT Protocol Client, no migration or loss necessary. Could not be easier.

I think the biggest damage to the art community was the obsolescence of gallery sites (y!, deviantart, etc) and the rise of scroll-by social media, like twitter and even tumblr. Art is not ''content'', you shouldnt need to post art every day (or every month!) to be relevant. This mindset sucks.

I've had people finish the entirety of Brimstone and Roses (all 143 episodes) and still not know Bea, Lazareth, or Ginger's names Like it's actually insane how much people skim and then whine about updates "being too short" cause they didn't read

ARTISTS: there’s a scam going around where someone will commission you, you send the sketch and they will claim it’s AI and ask to be refunded. • do not refund the person • POST their @ - do not keep them censored • ONLY send watermarked low res WIPs. it doesn’t matter if it’s a mutual or not.
