Super great reporting, and I really appreciate the depth and nuance of it for people who aren’t familiar with the US rules around unions!

My mom works in customer service and she’s maintained that since 2020 people have become a ton more rude and demanding, and now it’s skyrocketed since everyone talks like they’re telling a robot what to do. Even when they call her! But that type of repeated interaction warps the way you speak

Lovely photos!! My garden also didn’t work out this year (over double our usual rainfall ➡️ mosquito apocalypse) but I’ve been trying to make the most of it by harvesting seeds from all the wildflowers that settled into the unmaintained beds. It’s been a nice way to reclaim a bit of garden time!

many people on this website can recognize that your parent watching 16 hrs of Fox News every day will warp their perception and prime them to accept what they see as fact without much proof, but fail to recognize the same in themselves when it’s 16 hours of scrolling (todays ex.: The Eminem lyrics)

Raina 🇨🇦 @rainaelm.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

The sheer volume of comments that are like “this doesn’t rhyme” “this doesn’t even sound like Eminem” etc… there is a reason for that…

I find it profoundly interesting how few people understand that every piece of clothing they have ever worn was sewn by human hands. There’s something there about the hand-waving way its used as some marker of “progress” when instead it’s more about how distance turns people into an assumed machine

My “yes and” to this - Online tends to distort things that were for a small audience into a universal one. E.g. the “does the dog die” site goes from a tongue-in-cheek tool for people who aren’t in a place to deal with that to “it’s literally unethical to make me feel sad” in just a few years

Ahh I almost ran into the same problem over here in Edmonton since we're down to 1 independent theatre -- luckily our local Landmark has ludicrously good programming so I'm seeing Primetime tonight ahead of a bunch of EIFF movies this weekend! Hope somewhere good in Van is able to squeeze it in🤞

Jennifer Hale once told me Canadians need to champion ourselves more. I wholeheartedly agree. Over the past few months, I reached out to dozens of Canadian devs to learn their favourite Canadian games. Their varied responses offer a wonderful spotlight on some of the incredible talent we have here.🍁

These are must-play Canadian games, according to Canadian devs

As Canadians, we don't champion ourselves enough, so we asked dozens of game developers to do just that.

Incredibly clear inditement of the future these fucking losers want for people. It’s lunatic behaviour to not only say you would fail the test EMTs use to assess cognitive problems but to posit it as a desirable future. Despicable, credulous, cowardice on Klein‘s part.

I am THRILLED Little Ghost is out now! It's a metroidvania set in a mixed-media collage. The soundtrack rips, and it looks like nothing else I've played. It's $15 CAD, it's so good, highly recommend checking it out!! I can't find their @ so here's the trailer: store.steampowered.com/app/1587380/...

Big Walk is so good it has me and my other mid-30s pals up until 1am on a Wednesday debating if we should do “just one more thing” for like the fifth time. It’s SO GOOD! And such a unique design language that makes it feel so special.

I very much enjoy Nabokov's Lectures on Russian Literature (1981), which is sort of a condensed version of the lectures he gave while teaching! You could def use it as a reading list and a way to structure engaging with 19th century Russian lit (with some nice connections to other European works)

Raina 🇨🇦 @rainaelm.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

I think about this a lot!! Def agreed there’s no easy “reason” but one thing I come back to often is how referential indies can be in their design. In trying to call back to something (a mechanic, a style, etc) its easy to lose a piece of what makes it feel like a “real game” with inherent appeal

011

Raina 🇨🇦 @rainaelm.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

I thought this was a @hard-drive.net post 😭 There isn’t even a good dramatic lead-up, it just plays a normal length sound and then sort of trails off for 6 seconds before coming back around to wrap it up

Earlier versions of the game did acknowledge the creators of the original games at the start of each section, and I consider it unacceptable that this was removed at Jon’s direction. Stephen Totilo noticed this change and wrote a nuanced article here: www.gamefile.news/p/a-complica...

A complicated game

Who gets credit for Order of the Sinking Star? Where should the names appear for the creators of its source material? And would you notice if a great game designer sat next to you?

Fun spread this week! Caught the new Final Cut of Manhunter at a local indie theater, then kicked off Hooptober 13 with the rightly panned Jaws: the Revenge and finally checked out Bride of Reanimator which was an EXCELLENT follow up to the first! boxd.it/7jc9V #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched

A screenshot of letterboxed showing my last four watched movies: Bride of Reanimator (three and a half stars), Jaws The Revenge (one star), A Fish Called Wanda, and Manhunter (five stars)

My best guess is he knew that full well, and was more or less hoping to coast on association with them instead of needing to state any sort of actual beliefs. He got unlucky when it became newsworthy because he had to be clear about his position (and boy did he)

It’s obviously crazy expensive but I really like the look of the iPhone duo!! I have small hands and screens are too long, so a wider + shorter phone in the folded mode is basically perfect. Like I’m not sure how much I’d really get out of the whole folding deal, but that part rules
