Giving Urban Warriors (1987) a try, because I'm a sucker for Italian 80s scif-fi pulp. If someone with the haircut on the left turns up, I'll be happy. So fat: cheap sets, bad dialogue, a cast giving it their ( limited) all, explosions, & a cheap, dub mixed with a rich, epic disco scoring. Pure fun.

If you are in the mood for some experimental, biblically inspired, (big "A") post-Apocyptic science-fantasy, the Angel's Egg is a great choice. Beyond "it was a beautiful, sometimes harrowed, somber tone-poem" I can't say, as @pinkapplejam.bsky.social & I are still discussing what happened. So good

Gamera vs. Gyaos time, and I'm very much hoping the psycho turtle continues to kick the shit out of anything that annoys him. Oh bugger, there's a smiling child pointing at our hard-shelled hero. I guess the heal turn is neigh.

Gokusen (2002-2008) is the most photo realistic anime I've ever seen. To follows the usual path that orphaned Yakuza-boss's granddaughter becomes maths teacher, stands-up for troubled kids, falks in love with cop, romantic-comedy-social-crime-coming-of-age-dramas do, and I'm locked in for it.

The Ship Of Monsters (1960). Venus needs men, so two of their bikini clad finest & their robot have kidnapped assorted kings of the universe and are now in Mexico to pick up a singing cowboy. Then a vampire turns up. Whatever you watched this evening was a waste of time compared to this banger.

She-Wolves of the Wasteland (1988) is remarkable for having a very accurate poster. Its Mad Maxine, filled with 80s buffooned women in not-much sportswear and exciting-leather, shooting each other from dune-buggies in a post-apocyptic and post-bra desert. It's also good budget action fun for all.

Space Probe Taurus (1965) is today's random pick. I expect quality pulp sci-fi, enhanced by heatstroke from going outside for three minutes.

It's exciting to think that the Second American Civil War could be started to distract from the chain of disastrous foreign wars that were started to distract the disastrous domestic policies that were started to distract from Trump being in the Epstein files.

@iwriteok.bsky.social the WH40k episode was amazing! Thank you for highlighting the greboo origins of the setting and humour in the Rogue Trader era. Looking forward to the next episode, so please get cracking on that paperwork 😎😀👏

1/2 it's also a test, to see if the truthiness is more important than the truth in an observer. A call to submit to a "bigger truth", & a means to mock those who point out it's irrelevant false falseness. Trump has to do dull office stuff, just like you. He's basically you, so you can relate to him.

I have become obsessed with this picture. It's obviously fake, being both a constructed replica & not being how things happen, but has a "Truthiness" that speaks to an audience that knows it's fake. It's essentially religious / sacred art, in that it's for the devoted to identify and get comfort 1/2

Thanks, wise John Waters, I shall! With Street Trash (1987), because I saw the trailer for the remake and assumed the original would be even better. Five minutes in and its everything I dreamed of, with surprise full frontal nudity before the credits had finished.

Witch Hat Atelier (2026- ) continues to be filled with charm, whimsy, and flair. A delightful fantasy anime, which I hope stays comparatively light yet powerful. Oh lord, I'm going full weeb!

Trump got nothing he wanted from the US surrender talks with Iran, so it's going to be another week of bullshit and death as he tries to explain how he's in total control of the war he's already lost.

Noel Coward did a romantic horror comedy and no one told me about it!? Fantastic dialogue, a pithy script complimented by snappy acting, and some surprisingly risqué moments. Blithe Spirit (1945) is worth your time for an unexpected retro treat.

This opens with a Ghost Train skeleton flying right at your face, then claims to be based on a true story, then has a Mid-Atlantic cockney accent explain both the stakes and how foggy it is in London. The Unholy Night (1929) is an absolute banger of a film,

I decided to watch something dramatic, well crafted, and sensible. Then the ghost of the murder victim turned up and that was the cherry on the cake. Rashomon (1950) is an absolute trip. Can highly recommend.

10 minutes in to Endgame (1983) and its the kind of Mad Max/cyberpunk/death sports mashup that makes Italian psychotronic so appealing. Nothing makes sense and everything looks stylish.

I really enjoyed #WarMachine (2026). It's exciting, surprisingly emotional and beautifully shot, sci-fi action fun. Things explode! Shots are fired!! Gungs are hoed!! Genuinely enjoyable nonsense. Shame the plot hinges on all US Rangers being blind as bats.

I liked it, as it had a period vibe and the pacing was part of that, like it was a regional TV drama. Admittedly. that makes it more of a curio of the nerdy/fart-sniffing than actually "good", but I've got enough out of it each watch that I feel obliged to offer my 2p

Watching the new Evangelion short for the 30th anniversary. Its untranslated, deeply involves the series lore, and is so damn well acted and animated that I can just about understand what's going on and am getting actual feels from it. Absolute respect to the strength of storytelling on display.

People are "suddenly" "discovering that there are a lot of young, healthy, accomplished, and thus sexy, people at the Winter Olympics. Just like they have at the summer Olympics, but with a lower average melanin... Yeah, it's probably racism.

The main problem with light hearted, family comedy R.V.: Runway Vacation (2006) is that we're an hour in and I'd cheer of Robin Williams throttled all of his awful, ungrateful, centered clan.

This film fills the same niche as 99p Teen Horror novels at The Works do, when you're at the age you can inhale anything if it's got "Supernatural" somewhere on the cover. I might as well critique the latest pop sensation. I mostly didn't like it because it's not for me, and thats cool.

Cellar Door (2024) is a waste of 97 minutes that could have been 45 and still need a rewrite. It was three starting ideas wrapped together with sticky tape, with the best being the touching pregnancy drama making things almost tasteless. The end effect: it looked smug whilst wasting its potential.

I think the point I worked out #Tarot (2024) was a bad film was when I thought "no one climbs a ladder like that", whilst not giving a shit about anything happening on screen. And yet... I carried on watching.
