Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 10hSome of the biggest wins in the primary were people like Myrna Munoz, who was backed by unions like SEIU. I have a lot of respect for the DSA and their organizing power, but oregon politics is _very_ complicated and it's going to take a lot more coalition building than I think most people realize 000
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 10hNot to mention that a lot of the organizing power for the Democratic Party is centered among the unions. You are essentially going to be running up against extremely powerful and well organized networks of labor if you try to take the Dem Party head on. Don't discount this. 100
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 10hIt's probably easy to out organize a single regional race. It's probably easy to out organize in a primary (the party infrastructure actually stays out of primaries for the most part). But at scale? There is a reason these campaigns pull millions of dollars. It's expensive to run state-wide races. 100
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 10hI think "Out Organizing the Oregon Dems" is not a small project. It probably feels that way in some spaces, but once you get out of urban areas, Oregon Dems aren't all that effective on the ballot. Voters are very complicated when it comes to trying to message. 100
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 01/10/2026Yeah! I don't get it. Her campaign tells certain organizations about this (this conversation happened in the stonewall caucus at the DPO in August. Several folks were in that meeting with me), but never publicly. I haven't a clue why not. 010
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 30/09/2026Yeah, I'm right there with you. And now she is learning that it didn't fucking work, it never would have worked, and why do you even bother trying to do that? I just wish she learned it years ago and not 33 days before the election but I'm just a county party organizer what do i know 080
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 30/09/2026Yeah, I learned it in a small meeting with someone on Tinas campaign when I asked if there was something I could talk about related to trans rights. I cannot explain why this isn't known to everyone, and that party insiders had to go digging for it, because it shows she doesn't suck on something! 2120
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 30/09/2026Did you know that she called every hospital in the state to remind them that they are required by state law to provide transgender healthcare? I have no idea why she isn't running that shit loud and proud, but she did do it. That is what is going to get me to knock doors for her. 2304

Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 30/09/2026Every time I knock doors in Hillsboro, I come home fired up and ready to do more. The people of Hillsboro are some of the kindest, most thoughtful, and engaged people in the state. I also keep running into people I know. Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 29/09/2026I'm running for Chair of the WashCoDems in Nov. Building Bridges. Forming Coalitions. Going places where the Democratic Party isn't and bringing this energy with us. There are still two legislative seats held by republicans and several city councils with maga republicans in them. We're coming. 220
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 29/09/2026I am proud to work as @dianaforhillsboro.bsky.social's campaign manager for her race for Hillsboro City Council. I'm honored and humbled by the trust the @washcodems.bsky.social put in me to serve as their 1st Vice Chair. We're on the move, and I hope everyone in Washington County comes with us 120
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 29/09/2026I haven't knocked a bad door in my canvassing. Hillsboro is on fire right now against the data centers and the rising cost of living. I've never had an easier time or better conversations, it's filling me with so much energy. We are fighting the same fight, and we're getting organized 110
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 29/09/2026This is a movement. We've been building bridges everywhere we can. Personally, while I'm not a member of the DSA, I'm happy to collaborate and work in solidarity with members, because we do agree on a LOT. I've started to get pretty involved with the Oregon WFP, and they've been incredible out here 110
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 29/09/2026failure of capitalism. Folks just don't really articulate it very well if they don't have political education. That is what we're seeing in Washington County. We're seeing the complete destruction of our land for the growth of an industry that doesn't even pay taxes! 110
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 29/09/2026all encompassing problem: Wealth Inequality and the pure outright failure of capitalism in creating a stable and healthy world we're excited to live in. Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 29/09/2026One of the big themes of my organizing is building bridges and allies with everyone in washington county. I feel like I said "We're all fighting the same fight" too many times that it's getting annoying but it's true! Every single person out here is fighting the same fights and against the same 110
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 29/09/2026I think the article over focuses on DSA a bit. We have several DSA electeds and activists out here, and I love them dearly. This movement isn't _just_ the DSA though. We have WFP, we have Wash Co Dems. We have Indivisible Groups. There are so many different organizations and allies working together 110
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 29/09/2026I wanted to share some more of my thoughts on this article, and what is going on in Washington County. First off, I'm a big fan of this article. And it's not because I'm in one of the pictures in it. Seeing several of my friends and people I organize with be featured is pure joy. 132

Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 23/09/2026So, yeah, I dont consider it a mental illness. More of just something that was there and now is gone. 030
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 23/09/2026to add to this, dysphoria was something i didnt know i had until it was gone. When it started to melt away, it was a relief in a way I hadn't experienced before. When i started talking to other trans folks to see if others experienced it, i got a few "honey.... that was dysphoria". 130
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 22/09/2026I think this is what causes some dems to fall into transphobia. They are part of the group that thinks people should have power over others, they are just vigorously debating who should have that power and who the others are. 140
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 22/09/2026I find this is the relationship with peoples opinions on "power over people". There is as much debate between people who agree that someone (or some class) should have power over another (or class) as there is debate between people who think that power like that should or shouldn't exist 130
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 22/09/2026I agree with this as a developer too. As workers in the industry we've spent so much time making an incredible amount of money for a small number of people, and now we're finding out the consequences of doing that and not pushing back collectively. 020

Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 22/09/2026Absolutely! And also i find it deeply annoying how most local politics these days is defined by what someone said on facebook or twitter. Don't people have better things to fight? I don't really care what mean tweets or facebook post someone said. Get mad at something real! 030
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 22/09/2026I even have problems with bluesky tbh. Any platform where you don't know how they make money makes money off of you. 140
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 22/09/2026I've done over 200 doors already! Hillsboro has a lot of fun folks that are very receptive to our message. Come talk about three fantastic candidates that are trying to make the government work for the working class! 020

Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 22/09/2026I can't understand this about some groups. Facebook or Twitter are extremely hostile to any sort of pro-people organizing. The only reason you'll ever get traction on those platforms is because you are valuable to the owners. It's dumb to stay on them. 240
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 21/09/2026Anyway, vote for @nafisafai.bsky.social. She's put up with years of abuse from Kathryn, and Pam has just sat around silently. Nafisa is one of the strongest, kindest, and most dedicated folks I have ever met, and I'm proud to stand beside her. 040
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 21/09/2026I laughed, went okay. She then asked the Wash Co Dems to endorse that cop funding measure. The vote was a 2/3rds requirement to pass, and it came down to one vote to pass. I looked her dead in the eye and voted no. We did not endorse the bond measure. I told her I don't vote for things like that 220
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 21/09/2026Well, she showed up 2 months later to one of our meetings to ask for an endorsement of the Wash Co Sherrif's bond measure. I was also gathering signatures at the time for IP 33, and I asked her to sign the petition, and she refused saying "I dont sign things like that" 100
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 21/09/2026A few of us in Washington County decided to protest it. I was part of that group, and I serve as the county party vice chair so she got really mad at me for it. She sent us a really pissy email afterwards demanding we cancel her recurring donations and to not expect anything from her ever again. 110
Gemma @raesunshine.cool · 21/09/2026So funny story with Kathryn. Last year she did a whole thing where she complied in advance with some trump admin executive orders and tried to remove "DEI" language from a bunch of documents that the county had passed. It succeeded (Pam Treece voted for it!). 120
