"Software developers are not okay" www.baldurbjarnason.com/2026/05-soft... The software industry is becoming increasingly hostile to those who work in it. The uncertainty is affecting even those who believe in the promises of tech. Direct link to the essay: www.baldurbjarnason.com/2026/05-soft...

But hold on a moment. How can a LLM being used as a computer programming tool even get hold of some PII, such as a real bank account number, in the first place? [angry goose meme.gif]

Not really sure I'd trust anything this courier might bring me, to be honest....
On the side of a white van, a blue & black logo, comprising a blue circle, surrounded by white from which a blue stylised wing sticks out to the right. Surrounding the inner, blue, circle is a stylised black ring (or maybe a pot). In blue capital letters is the word "Pandora's" below which, in wider black capital keyters, is the wourd "Courier". Some distance below, in black sentence case lettering "Distance is just a word". Do these people not know their Greek mythology?

Some morning musings on AI. We need to stop talking about this as technology issue. It's an ethics & law enforcement issue. Thread:

I'm an old 80s Indie Kid, and I used to quip I stopped listening to _popular_ music in 1983. The ethos of Punk, and later Indie, was that the music corporations produced slop, but we don't have to put up with it.

Accessing social security benefits is hard because there are politically powerful people (including ordinary voters, not only the rich) who *want* it to be that way. No tech can ever make such a system simple to use.

Raedwald @raedwald.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
I like the bit were the AI booster speculates how better it would be to have an "AI" make it easy to claim government social security benefits. The difficulty isn't a bug, its a feature. UBI paid fir by a progressive tax system is the known solution for many years now.

20 years ago the high-level coordination and scheduling code for a software system I worked on was a collection of shell-scripts. As it evolved and became more complicated, we selectively re-wrote sub-systems in C++. Because we had comprehensive automated tests, we could that safely.

FWIW, my explanation of why Labour has put so much effort into pandering to the racists is that they think progressive voters have nowhere else to go, so trying to get the racist vote is the smart strategy.
