That one person can drag us into a war without consulting or even notifying Congress, or our allies, or fully explaining to the American people why this is necessary, is absolutely bonkers. Reminder that Congress has the power to stop all of this. Where the hell are they? Hello?

I knew this speculative #feminist methodologies class was going to be incredibly eye-opening. "Dear Ijeawele" (Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie) cuts right to the heart of things, including me and the things I wish my mother had known when I was a child.

I can’t recommend this enough. UNBREAKING, a new project from @lizneeley.bsky.social & co, documents & explains our many concurrent institutional collapses. It’s beautifully executed work, full of intellectual & moral clarity. 3 pages are live, more will come. It’s SO GOOD, & I learned so much.

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. This week I added my 5th teaching award nomination to my CV (which I am really humbled and honored by because it's a student-led nomination process)... along with my 5th notification that I was not selected for said award.

I teach methods in psych. How do I gently ask my students "is this what a results section looks like in any of the papers you've read?" (or in the examples or the how-to videos I posted?) I'm not being snarky. How do I tell them - model your writing after other good writing!

I think it's just to keep the overall document easier to navigate? For example, we created a doc today that is about our experiences at a conference and added a tab to start our outline for presenting it at our next staff meeting (instead of starting a new doc)

I personally see tabs as related sections in a notebook. Each tab could have headings and subheadings within them.

I agree with you. tbh most of my purpose in being on social media is learning from others and being able to share my (academic) work, so linking the two actually seems pretty cool to me. I appreciate the tip b/c I don't think I would have figured it out on my own.

Does anyone by chance have a reference for the process of theory testing and development? Maybe @devezer.bsky.social ? I'm trying to argue that a basic tenet of theory testing is that it is incremental (ie isolates one feature to test at a time) #AcademicSky #PsychSciSky

one of the reasons bluesky works differently is because early users waged a successful fight to get the devs to prioritize safety features to protect communities at risk as a result bluesky now has a suite of controls that i think are unmatched on social media here’s the list, lmk what i’ve missed
A Probably Incomplete List of Bluesky User Safety Mechanisms

Protecting your posts
• disabling replies on your posts
• limiting replies on your posts to people you follow, mention, or include in specific lists
• disabling quote posting on your posts
• detaching your post from someone else's quote
• changing the above interaction settings even after a post is sent hiding replies to your posts for yourself or for everyone
• self-labeling your media for adult or graphic content to protect other users
• limiting account visibility only to logged in users
• note: this is not 100% enforceable but all major bluesky clients and apps support it

Limiting your interaction
• blocking users from seeing or interacting with your posts
• if you block after an interaction, they vaporize
• if they've replied already, the entire thread below their reply is cauterized for everyone, floating in space detached from your post
• note: your blocks are publicly visible via 3rd party apps
• muting users to remove them from your notis and feeds, and hide them in replies
• note: your mutes are private
• muting or blocking entire moderation lists of users
• note: inclusion in a list is public via third party apps. muting a list is private, blocks via a list are public
• subscribing to other people's mod lists
• note: your subscription is private, muting & blocking work the same
• subscribing to labelers (moderation services) from bluesky or third parties
o decide whether to show, warn, or hide posts that have been labeled in each category
• report content that should be labeled to bluesky and/or third parties labelers

they could report about this, but it wouldn’t fit their scripted culture war narrative.
