They pretty much do that now, and that’s better than nothing. He hasn’t worked since he had a breakdown at 25ish, so savings isn’t really an issue. We’re trying to plan for our deaths, just-in-case, and the options are few.

I am so very sorry. Similar situation here. My BIL, 68, lives with us, paranoid schizophrenic. He’s on Medicaid. We have no idea what will happen to him if Medicaid drops him. We can’t afford the meds and he can’t work. He would need to be institutionalized, but how? We can’t afford that either.
